Resource Rocks

Additional content for TKOM::

New featurs for use in scenario's:
-resource rocks (travel with the buggy to mine using barrels)
-grindable objects (travel with cargo truck to collect items)
-minable rocks (drill with the mining tool and load onto cargo truck)
-grinder : Machine to process grindable objects into resources
-new resource: Ice (can be melted to water)
-new resource CobaltOre (can be refined to Cobalt & Waste)
-detector device

1) Resource Rocks. An object that looks like a big white rock, but behaves like a resource tank with one output slot (no inputs). These can be mined with a resource barrel. Just hover the barrel over the rock and the slot becomes visible. They contain a limited amount and will deplete. The scenario creator can fill them with any resource and choose the quantity. In my SETL-scenario I created a new resource "Ice" and filled some rocks with it. Ice can be melted into water. Resource rocks can be far away since you can reach them with the PHEV-buggy.

2) Grinder objects. Thes objects can be processed in the grinder. Attach barrels to collect resources.
Grinder objects come in 3 types:
a) debris - mainly aluminium, with some iron and silicon
b) Iron Rocks - with IronOxide
c) Cobalt rocks - with CobaltOre
d) Some plastic objects (traffic cone, keyboard and cup)
Grinder objects should be visited with the cargo truck, since you need to bring them to your grinder.

3) Minable Rocks
Rocks that can be filled with a resource during scenario creation. In game they can be mined using the "mining tool", a drill that extracts resource from the large mining rock and spawns smaller rocks that can be processed in the grinder.

4) new resources : CobaltOre/Cobalt and Ice.

5) new tool : MIning tool, used for drilling grindable rocks out of minable rocks

6) Grinder (improved copy from from Mr.Monochome), which is used to process all grindable objects

7) Detector. MK1 scans for grindable rocks. MK2 has a larger range and also scans for grindable rocks and minable- and resource rocks. MK2 requireq cobalt so you first need to find some of those rocks.

This gives an alternative way of gathering resources. As a scenario-creator you decide how much of this you put on your map and how far away. Instead of only mining for rock, soil and air, you can now get around the map to POI's containing resources. It should still be hard work, but more versatile then just mining and building. These new objects give purpose to the vehicles. Visit resource rocks with the buggy and collect grinder objects with the cargo truck.

Using this is quite technical and some experience in using the scenario editor is recommended.

If you only use the resource rocks (1) then the player does not need this addon, since the scenario will refer to standard components.. For all other new stuff (2-6) you also need this addon to play.

Step by step: ( Resource Rock)
1) add and activate the mod
2) open editor and start a scenario
3) add a dynamic object from the bottom of the list of type "resource rock"
4) select it and edit its properties like you can with a resource barrel or tank.
5) add the resource that you want. For example water.
6) add an astronaut as a start-unit and press "play" to do the final work
7) assemble the rock into the ground with you assembly tool.
8) test it by connecting an empty resource barrel on top.

Similar for grinder objects, but only steps 1-3 since you don't have to fill them. They already consist of fixed resources.
"minable Rocks" are placed in the editor. Remember to fill them with a resource. (just like the resource rocks).

I will for sure, but in a few weeks from now. I'm working now on a scenario for this game as well. :)

Thanks for your nice words. I agree that it would be much better with a vehicle with mining attachments.

Yes, it was because of lacking coding experience that I made it this way. The "resource rocks" with the barrel was the first thing I made here. The rock is actually a resource tank, disguised as a rock. This was all I could do at the time. The goal was to add resources to the map, to have far away goals in scenarios.

Later I added the grindable rocks for which you need the handheld drill for mining, and the grinder for processing. This is much prettier.

But both serve their own purpose. The barrel-flling resource rocks gives an incentive to build a buggy. (preferably the PHEV-version).

The grindable rocks and debris need a truck for transport, adding incentive for this vehicle.

This is a awesome concept. But can I ask, was it because of coding experience that you choose a Barrel to harvest rocks??? Why not with the Handdrill? Or a drill on the MLL or truck, with a recourse tank attached? That would make the mod so much more awesome. Cuase this game is made up of realistic as it can be. Popping a brrel on a rock feels and looks like cheating. It DEGRATES your MOD! As this mod is AWESOME in it's concept. To be able to drill with hand or machinery on rocks you easily setup. 5/5 stars. Take my money!
