Nuln, Bastion of the South

Description
The Lore
Nuln, the so-called Bastion of the South and the Jewel of the Empire, is the second largest Imperial city and the largest manufacturer and exporter of munitions and blackpowder warmachines within the entire Empire of Man, earning itself the title as the Armory of the Empire. Sitting at the heart of the Old World's southern trade routes, it stands as an imposing bastion, its fortified walls bristling with enough heavy artillery emplacements to arm a fleet of war galleons.

The Map
Nuln, Bastion of the South is a relatively lorefriendly medium-big siege map based on the city of Nuln, done because Nuln was my first map for Warhammer 1, and I wanted to see how much better I could make it for Warhammer 3. Unlike vanilla siege maps, it features some unique mechanics:
  • Defensive focus: Unlike vanilla sieges, the map is focused on giving advantages to the defender, instead of just giving the attacker a "fair" map. Because a siege is not supposed to be a fair battle for the attacker. This includes a lot of chokepoints, a very defensible main capture point, and districts with only one defensible route between them.
  • Capture Point Effects: Each major capture point provides substantial buffs to their owner. This means losing a capture points is no longer irrelevant. Now it means losing a powerful buff, which the enemy will now have. Think carefully what parts of the map are worth defending for your faction, and which ones are better off the hands of the attacker....
  • Unique barricades and Towers: In certain parts of the city the defender can build powerful barricades and towers unique to those positions. There are 2 unique barricades (Oil Pit, and Oil Leak) and 4 unique towers (Smog tower, Mortar tower, Volley Gun tower, and Experimental Magic Ray tower, which uses magic reserves instead of supplies).
  • Reduced climbable walls: I hate assladders. And this map shows it. Despite the walls being numerous, the climbable walls are few and far between.
  • No climbable walls beside gates: Tired of getting your gates surrounded? Not on this map.
  • No wall towers: You have elevated buildable towers instead.

Requirements
In order for this map to work, you also need the Map Replacer Framework. If you want to remove the map from campaign (yes, it appears on campaign on nuln), you also need the MCT.

If you want to try and edit it, or you want to learn how to setup a siege map logic, I've included the source files of the map in the pack. Just unpack the "source_files" folder into "assembly_kit/raw_data", and you should be able to open it in terry. Just keep in mind Terry eats about 16gb of ram when opening it. Also, you'll need to extract the custom prefabs from the map replacer, and turn the map replacer into a movie mod. Otherwise you'll get errors when saving the map.

The FAQ
  • AI sometimes deploys a bit weird when attacking gates: Yeah, there's little I can do about that.
  • It's too heavy on my system!!!: The map has so many buildings that the game crashes if I add more, so it's normal.
  • It is lorefriendly?: It was going to be, but gameplay comes first. And when I tried to make a pirate cove... things went downhill pretty fast.
  • Why not putting barricades on all routes, blocking sections of the map?: Because the attacker AI breaks if you block all the available paths to the main capture point.
  • Can't build anything on the emplacement wall: Yeah, I tried to make it work, but could not figure out how to make it work.

The Credits
  • Frodo45127: I did the map.
  • All Is Dust: He did the volley gun tower model.
  • LordCarmi: He did some ships.
  • Roodboi: He did some prefabs.
  • Suerto: He did one of the prefabs.

Game crashes to desktop on start if GCCM: Beta is loaded before Nuln, Bastion of the South. For TW Mod Organizer, Nuln, Bastion of the South needs to be above GCCM: Beta. In WH3 Mod Manager, Nuln, Bastion of the South needs to be below GCCM: Beta. Weird how both programs load mods differently, but it's something to pay attention to.

it has been integrated into GCCM and the game wont launch if we have both of them activated, obviously... took me a bit to figure out why my game wasn't launching with the same mod list i played with yesterday lol

I isolated this as the cause of crashes. Guess that makes sense with the recent update
