Fictional History:
The Auckland's keel was laid down on the 23rd of July 1897 and she was launched on the 6th of May 1898.
The fitting-out process was completed by the 28th of August that same year. After the sea trials, she was ready to serve the New Wales Brothers Line and she had her maiden voyage on the 21st of November 1898.
Her entire career she ran the route between Hobart and Dunedin. The voyage would take about 5 days.
She was a tramp steamer and nothing innovative for her time. However, as a tramp steamer, she did a good job.
The passengers she did carry reported that she was one of the more luxurious tramp steamers, having a dining room and main staircase with wood paneling. The passenger and crew cabins were basic.
The ship had no major accidents until her last voyage in 1907.
Entering Dunedin the ship hit a rock, a deckhand was sent down to check for damage, which there visibly was none.
The ship docked, unloaded her passengers and cargo and loaded coal. Without any hull inspection, the ship undocked with new passengers and cargo, on her way to Hobart. A grave mistake as it would turn out.
A few hours into the voyage, with some mild wind, fog and rain, and about 30 kilometers off the coast of New Zealand, the damaged part of the hull at the refrigerated cargo hold would finally break, letting the sea flood the cargo hold.
The two cooks that were preparing for lunch instantly took note of the screeching noise caused by the hull breaking and the subsequent hissing of the water flooding into the cargo hold.
One cook would go to the bridge to inform the captain about the damage, whilst the other cook would go into the cargo hold and save as many provisions as possible.
As soon as the captain was informed about the damage, he gave out the order to stop the engine, close all the watertight doors, prepare the lifeboats to be launched, and bring all the passengers up on deck.
By the time the cook got back down to the kitchen, the cargo hold was already flooded entirely and was starting to flood the kitchen and the corridors.
Passengers were screaming in panic, running to the stairs.
The bow was starting to go underwater, meanwhile, the lifeboats were still being prepared, and passengers were still scrambling for their belongings.
Passengers were now starting to enter the deck, their clothes wet from the water in the corridor.
There was no time left. The bow was now fully underwater and it would only be about a minute until the bridge would start flooding.
Passengers quickly started entering the boats, but for the people still down in the corridors it was now too late.
One of the lifeboats got stuck on the davit, but a few passengers could unstick it. The bridge was now underwater and the final plunge was just about to begin.
The ship's stern went more and more into the air, and water would consume the funnel until the ship finally started plunging, and just 8 minutes after the ship started flooding it was underwater.
Out of the 38 people on board, 8 people died.
An inquiry concluded that the captain was at fault for not investigating the damage further, and instead continuing with normal operations after colliding with the rock.
It was also found that the cargo hold hatch covers were not maintained enough. They could not be sealed properly and would let water in, which caused the ship to plunge so quickly.
The wreck was found relatively intact in 1991. The masts and the funnel collapsed, and the bow was crushed and angled downwards. Besides that, there were no major structural failures.

To start and operate:
Head to the boiler room, specifically the catwalk above the boilers. Open all the air valves.
Go down to the boilers and press the "Ignite Firebox" button on all 4 fireboxes.
Then go to the engine room lower deck and activate the condenser there.
Then climb the stairs to the top deck of the engine room, wait for the pressure to rise and then open the steam valves to your desired level.
If your boiler ever runs out of water, just open the seawater valve next to it.
If you want to extinguish the fireboxes, just close the air valves.

To sink:
There are two switches in the silent room, the room next to the Marconi wireless room.
Lore Sink: Sinks the ship as described in the lore.
Random Sink: Starts flooding any random compartment, including the lore sink compartment.
If you press the random sink button and you can't hear a hatch opening, you have the engine room sinking and you have to open the maintenance hatch on the condenser in the engine room.
You can get some pretty interesting combinations by pressing both buttons, however, there is a chance that the Random Sink button will just open the hatch for the lore sink and so won't do anything.

I don't know why but the steamships and most of the small ships my pc can only handle never show up in addon editor. Is this because I need a dlc or something?
