Description of Mod

The primary purpose of this mod is to restore the ability for Mounts to engage in combat if the player so chooses. This means that the Mounts will no longer run away when attacked by enemies as giving them combat abilities removes that as an option (that's about the only downside). Instead, Mounts will now have the same Follower options for engagement as any other Follower.

There are a few other features included with this mod. The Authority Attribute tree will now work with Mounts. Next, is that I've taken a few unused Horse Saddles that were in the Devkit but not used in-game. I've distrubeted those saddles into places I feel is appropriate for learning them (read more below for those details). The Saddles can be dyed using Fashionist's Dyeable system. I've also added mounted combat attacks when using a Katana, Short Sword, Dual Axe, Dual Sword, and Great Sword.

TLDR features of the mod:
  • Mounts engage in combat based on what the player tells it to do like any other Follower
  • Authority Attribute now contributes to Mounts
  • Added 5 new saddles that weren't being used from the Devkit and 3 bareback saddle options. (Compatible with Fashionist's Dye System!)
  • Added the ability to use mounted attacks while using a Katana, Short Sword, Dual Axe/Sword, and Great Sword.
  • Fixes a game bug where Mounts would stop fighting in combat (for more on that, see Known Issues below)
  • Adds Dung production from Camel mounts, and makes the attack from Camels more impactful.
  • Also offers a way to make the mount passive and run away as needed via a radial option of the mount.

Saddle Locations

There are 8 total saddles added in this mod. Here is where to find them.
  • Aquilonian Light Scout Saddle - Novice Saddle-maker (Feat)
  • Aquilonian Medium Scout Saddle - Journeyman Saddle-maker (Feat)
  • Scout Bareback Saddle - Aquilonian Scout Saddle (Feat)
  • Savage Light Cavalry Saddle - Novice Saddle-maker (Feat)
  • Savage Medium Cavalry Saddle - Journeyman Saddle-maker (Feat)
  • Cavalry Bareback Saddle - Savage Cavalry Saddle (Feat)
  • Warhorse Bareback Saddle - Expert Saddle-maker (Feat)
  • Obsidian Cavalry Saddle - Rare drop (Scroll)
    Exile Lands - The Degenerate
    Isle of Siptah - Grey One Boss (there are 4 of them).

The last note on Saddles, the Obsidian Cavalry Saddle is a midly better Cavalry sadle then something like the Savage Cavalry Saddle. I figured I would make it a little fun trying to get rather then just stick it in a feat you could learn right off the start. The Reins are invisible saddles that allow for bareback riding. They have faster speed and endurance bonuses while having less defense.

Other Mods

This mod should work perfectly fine with other mods that adds Mounts so long as they use the default entry for Mounts in the ThrallGroupTable. If it doesn't work, try moving Mount Combat Restored further down the load order (at least after the mods that add those other Mounts). If it still doesn't work, then they are using a custom entry in ThrallGroupTable. I will happily include that into this mod, but it will be up to that mod creator to reach out and contact me on the BBB discord.

Other then that, mods like Better Thralls and Follower Remote should work just fine with this mod.

The mod of course works great with my own mod, Undead Horse Mounts

Lastly, while Javelins are not useable while mounted in this mod, they absolutely are on my other mod, Javelin Improved

Mod Conflicts

There are no known mod conflicts at this time. However, if your mounts are not fighting, or you are unable to fight with any of the weapons I've added to make them useable while mounted, then you have some sort of conflict. Try moving MRC below that mod to see if it solves the problem.

Known Issue (FIXED in this mod!)

There is a base game bug where after mounting, your intended mount will not attack properly. The issue was identified and reported to Funcom. Rather then wait for that fix, and all credit to Xevyr for helping with this project, we came up with a temporary solution to solve this. Now its possible it still breaks, though our testing shows everything has been good so far. This is merely meant as a band aid until Funcom fixes the problem themselves.

If the combat on the mount does break, try to exit render range of the bugged mount for a short duration, and then come back and see if that resolves it.

For all other mods that add mounts (including my own, the Undead Horse Mount mod), as previously stated, this mod should work with them all. In addition, the temporary fix in this mod should also work for those mods too.

Future Plans and To-Do List

I'm leaving the door open to do more with this mod in the future, but at this point I don't know what that could be. For now, I don't have any plans in particular. Though things like balancing will most likely be included in future updates as is appropriate.

This mod overrides the following blueprints for Melee Combat while Mounted, as well as the Rhino to allow the horn attack to be used while sprinting:

Update Policy
  • I will update my mods on my terms and my terms alone. If you don't like my update schedule, don't use the mods.
