Description
I’ve never hidden that I’m a doctor main, so I can certifiably tell you that vanilla first aid kinda sucks. It’s one of 2 skills where rank 1 and rank 10 feel the same, the other being electrical. I’ve decided to fix that, with this mod that adds a whole bunch of changes to make leveling first aid useful and give some love to the first aid centric professions.

First aid changes:
  • Added botching treatments. Ranging from bandages having half their usual lifespan to taking nearly half of your health away if you botch a bullet removal on the neck, there’s a random chance that you’ll experience some unintended side effect. This random chance is affected by first aid level as well as stress and panic. More advanced procedures are more likely to be botched.
  • Wound infections are actually dangerous. Disinfect Or Die is a great concept but I’ve never liked that mod's execution. With this system, when you have infected wounds, your character will slowly start gaining sickness. If left to fester, an infected wound can move from sickness to full on flu.
  • Added a new treatment: Cauterization. Suppose you’re out on the trail and get an infected wound, but you don’t have any disinfectant. You’re not screwed, you can use gunpowder or a hot metal object to cauterize your wound. Upon a successful cauterization, all open wounds will immediately be sealed shut, all bleeding immediately stopped, and wound infection set back to 0. Unfortunately, there’s a massive burn left in their place. As cauterization removes the wound, it can be used to hide bites from others in MP despite not removing the zombie virus.
  • Rank 10 first aid can see the debug first aid information. This is very useful for figuring out how long until a wound heals, how far infection has progressed, seeing how much durability is left on bandages, and even allows for seeing wound progress underneath bandages.
  • You can cause injuries through the first aid menu. If you have a melee weapon, you can use the first aid menu for a targeted attack at a specific body part. This also means you can hurt yourself with the first aid menu. This ability was inspired by my many playthroughs of Barotrauma with Neurotrauma enabled, drugging NPCs and stealing their internal organs.

Medicine Changes:
  • Antibiotics treat some immediate infection sickness rather than solely removing infection.
  • Crafting recipes have been added for some but not all medicines and supplies based on medical herbs that have a similar purpose. Disinfectant from wild garlic, painkillers from black sage, etc.

Profession changes:
To incentivize choosing the first aid centric occupations, they have been given unique traits for a permanent buff that other occupations cannot get.
Doctor: Doctors cannot botch first aid. Period. Doctors can also spawn with a medical coat now because why isn’t that already a base game feature?
Nurse: Nurse has a few unique recipes to craft first aid supplies from common household items.

New Profession: Paramedic
+1 first aid, compared to Nurse’s +2 and Doctor’s +3
Costs 2 points, compared to doctor and nurse giving 2 free points.
Unique trait: Paramedics perform ALL first aid operations, even pulling up the first aid menu on your multiplayer friends, twice as fast. This stacks with existing speed increases from leveling first aid, making rank 10 paramedics capable of performing operations startlingly quickly.
Clothes: Paramedics get the starting clothing of the Nurse, as well as the jacket and pants found on ambulance drivers by crashed ambulances.

This mod is standalone, but I recommend the following mods as well to further enhance the experience:
Immersive Medicine adds a blood loss and blood types system as well as a dizzying amount of medicines and drugs. Due to rendering incompatibilities with the health menu, make sure this mod is added to the load order AFTER Immersive Medicine.
Zombie Virus Vaccine is a very well made mod that adds craftable cures. It’s a lot of work to get everything to make even a single dose, so I’ve never worried about balance with it. It also adds lots of lab equipment and medical themed decorations.
As for mods I’ve made, I recommend Grow Medicinal Herbs to grow medicinal herbs, and Ambulance Rear Seats to make the ambulance better for providing first aid on the move.

This mod is probably incompatible with other mods that adjust the vanilla game professions.

can you add fractures when you are hit by a bullet? it would be cool with bandits mods or in MP servers

I'm not sure, but the wound infection system used here is one I personally feel is balanced on the default settings.

Orph3us I've been using it with Antibodies and have had no issues so far. I also have The Only Cure installed, but I haven't had a chance to really use any of it's features yet so I can't confirm for sure that it works. No conflictions yet though, can't imagine why it wouldn't work

Is this mod compatible with "Not Useless Things" (use of cologne and perfume to disinfect bandages), "Antibodies" (beating the zombie infection with antibodies) and "The Only Cure" (allowing to cut off limbs to remove zombie infection)?

Fragrances contain alcohol and can be used as an anti-septic for last resort.
