Description:
If storms aren't bad enough for you, why not take it up a notch?

With this mod your helmets, suits, backpacks (yes, jetpacks too) and belts will deteriorate in exposure to storms.
Make sure not to stand outside during a storm for too long if you don't want to perform additional maintenance on your equipment.

My quick tests have revealed the following numbers for how long stuff survives in storm exposure with the default configuration.
Since weather damage is based on chance, your milage may vary from piece to piece:

Space Helmet: Will last for about 10 minutes of storm exposure
Eva Suit: Will last for about 16 minutes of storm exposure
Basic Jetpack: Will last for about 8 minutes of storm exposure
Mining Backpack: Will last about 7 minutes of storm exposure
Basic belts: Will last for about 5 minutes of storm exposure
Hardsuit Helmet: Will last about 35 minutes of storm exposure
Hardsuit: Will last about 40 minutes of storm exposure
Hard Mining Backpack: Will last about 15 minutes of storm exposure
Hard Backpack: Will last about 20 minutes of storm exposure
Hard Jetpack: Will last about 15 minutes of storm exposure
MkII belts: Will last for about 12 minutes of storm exposure

Additionally if you hold items in both hands there's a chance the storm will rip one of them out of your hand!
Holding just one item in either hand will be fine though.

As of version 1.1.0 an optional feature to enable storm damage to walls and doors facing outside atmosphere. This is disabled by default as it significantly increases the difficulty of the game but can be enabled in the config by setting "StructureDamageEnabled" to true.
I recommend playing with deadly survival with persistent damage enabled with this change, that will allow for walls to be repaired by replacing parts rather than consuming parts or reconstructing walls and doors.
Additionally with this enabled I highly recommend building double sided walls as the outer walls will protect the inner walls. This will also allow you to perform maintenance on outer walls when they are damaged by the storms.

NOTE: Damage chances, among other things, are configurable so feel free to have a peak at the configuration in bepinex/config/DeadlyStorms.cfg and customize your experience to fit your needs and desires :D

Thank you! I would really appreciate these options if you have the time!

I don't recall if frames will get damaged, I don't believe so but I could probably make it an option. I could also add options for the rest of the things you mention but I'm not sure if it should be enabled by default as I think it will be tedious for many if something was breaking every half second somewhere on a larger base :p
But when I get some time to look into things I'll definitely see to adding more options so people can play the way they want to

Thank you so much for clarifying and explaining everything! I really like your mod and am grateful for the effort you put into making and supporting it 💖

What about other structures like Frames (iron and steel) as well as furniture, exposed wiring, etc? Do they take damage, and if so can their damage chance be controlled?

Thank you again for the replies!

Another thing I can mention as I'm not sure how commonly known it is, the mod does work with double walls. So if you put walls on both the inside and outside of the wall structure it will only damage the outer wall until that one breaks before starting to damage the inner wall. So using double walls can add an extra layer of security to avoid breaches from storm damage :D

As to your first questions regarding separation of settings I will have to do some more research into how to detect those kinds of differences as I am currently checking on prefab name which is shared by many different types and doesn't (always) include metadata such as the material (iron, steel, composite, etc)
For the same reason there is currently no difference for shuttered windows if they're closed or not.

Regarding blast doors and different types of walls and doors I do believe they too have different damage values so inherently blast doors will survive longer than normal doors even with the same damage chance.

But I will investigate further to see if I can separate the settings further

So all in all the numbers, unfortunately, do not translate to anything specific. The damage is based on a random check and the numbers in the configuration file is basically the maximum range of the random check. So it's basically the chance of pulling a 0 from 0 and up to the configured number.

This also means that if you happen to be really unlucky you could theoretically, albeit improbably, have some items last much shorter than others. This also goes the other way of course.

So in essence, higher number means lower chance to take a hit and vice versa.

The default damage chance is 10 but the amount of damage they take on each hit is different from item to item so even though the chance is the same the time they will survive may be different

Also what are the damage chances to other structures (like boxes, smelters, etc)?
Lily Evershine 3 Jul, 2024 @ 2:40pm
In the wall damage, is there any way you can separate the settings for iron and steel wall damage? Also would it be possible to have separate categories to blast doors and regular doors? And would it be possible to add a setting for foundation damage?

Thank you! Love the mod otherwise!

Also, a few questions: What to the numbers in the cfg mean. Like what % does 600 vs 40 actually translate to? Also do shuttered windows behave differently than regular windows or open shutter windows?

Thank you!
