Description
This mod makes changes to concubines and their children so that they no longer have the samey status as spouses and their children. It does this by adding & changing traits and by blocking inheritance to varying degrees. It also adds liberation wars so you can free former spouses, as well as friends and acquaintances.

Background & Description
I finally got tired of the vanilla concubine mechanics and decided to make a mod fixing my issues with them. It began with fixing inheritance, since it made no sense to me that a child of a concubine by default could inherit at the expense of their fully legitimate siblings.

The new default is that children of concubines can only inherit if there exists no other preferable heir. This means that in most cases they'll only be able to inherit if there exists no legitimate male heir (more specifically, an heir of the dominating sex of a culture/faith). Much like bastards however, you can legitimize children of concubines so that they'll always inherit if they would have otherwise. This will of course come at the expense of any siblings that also are children of a concubine, making them unable to inherit unless they too are legitimized.

As for the concubines themselves, you can now make rulers into concubines (although not players). However, if an existing ruler is made into a concubine they'll be deposed and disinherited by virtue of being a concubine. As you might have already figured out, concubines are now by default completely blocked from title inheritance. They can however be elevated, increasing their status (read: reducing opinion penalties) and making them able to inherit titles that aren't dynastic. Additionally, children of elevated concubines are automatically legitimized.

Finally, there's now an alternative to paying ransoms, that is the new Demand Release interaction. This new interaction is basically an actionable threat. Currently if a demand is refused you automatically enter into a Liberation War, which if won will release all characters you have any relationship with at all. Except of course, rivals and nemesises, who'll instead be transferred to your dungeon. This new interaction also works with former spouses that have been forced into concubinage, making it possible to rescue/reclaim them. In the future I might make the interaction just unlock a casus belli if refused, instead of immediately starting a war.

Great Mod!
The one thing I wanted to say though, it that while the Offer, Request, and Offer/Request Truce concubine seem to work as expected, it seems that I am unable to elevate concubines if they were previously married. In addition, I do not see an option to legitimize the children of concubines, even ones that I have the option to elevate, though I think this probably has to do with my religion having the "No Bastards" doctrine, thus removing the option to legitimize.

Seconding Sledjer recommendation. Notepad++'s "replace in files" function makes this easy and really helps with compatablity.

How should this mod be placed, first or last of the mod list? Is it found to be incompatible with certain mods?
Sledjer 16 May @ 10:35pm
Hey is there a chance you could replace the doctrine/tradition triggers for your interactions to instead use the allowed_concubines trigger? That would allow more compatibility with mods that change or add relevant doctrines.

update please

@SwiftUmbra It should say why, unless you don't even pass the basic requirements (both your religion and the recipient's have to allow concubinage). That said, I'm not sure that has anything to do with my mod, as I haven't touched the vanilla offer_concubine interaction.
