Update February 25, 2025: Full Prototech integration, including jumpdrive and thrusters. If you don't laugh or at least smile real big the first time you fly this thing, there's something wrong with you.

Based on the IMDC Protos Corvette by JD Horx. All design rights belong to him.
Original here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=821584339&searchtext=imdc+protos
Pertam certified in 1x Survival. Make sure to use ACC (Ascent Cruise Control) or you may run out of hydrogen.

Lore:

The Protos-class Corvette, originally designed as a fast and agile ship to either scout enemy territory or to protect larger friendly vessels, was an integral part of the IMDC fleet. Its ability to land on planets was extremely valuable, allowing it to scout planets and find valuable resources for mining. However, it was beginning to show its age. The discovery of more distant planets and the invention of newer weaponry meant the Protos's original four Gatling turrets and four fixed rocket launchers were no longer sufficient. Furthermore, crew comfort was not up to the standards required for long-term habitation. A program was thus instituted to refit and update these venerable ships, bringing them in line with modern design standards.

The redesign trades two of its original four Gatling turrets with a pair of hard-hitting Assault Cannon turrets, with an additional Assault Cannon turret covering the rear. Additionally, the original four fixed rocket launchers were replaced with four massive artillery cannons, providing a huge increase in available firepower. The bridge also received a complete redesign, becoming more slender and with a centerline airlock. Flanking this new bridge were a pair of newly-installed titanic Artillery turrets. The ship's interior received a full overhaul, integrating full crew quarters and the very latest in design elements. Upgraded conveyor systems also provided an increase in combat survivability. the rear thruster pack was redesigned to be more effective in atmosphere.

With the recent discovery of Prototech, the IMDC has been scrambling to integrate it into their designs. The difficulty in acquiring it, however, meant that many ships did not receive it as-built, and were instead built Prototech-ready, with simple 1:1 substitution required to integrate the Prototech components as they became available.

Feaures:

2x Artillery Turrets
4x Assault Cannon Turrets
4x fixed Artillery
1x Assembler
1x Basic Refinery
1x Prototech Jump Drive (6000km jump range!)
2x Prototech Thrusters

Out-of-character:

I know High Ground did his own Protos Mk. IV (now obsolete due to Warfare 2), but I prefer to stick more closely to JD Horx's modern interior aesthetics. I did take some very minor inspiration from High Ground's lower floor crew quarters, but this is a 100% from-scratch update, starting from the original ship. Heavy use was made of reinforced conveyors to allow for extra interior room and improved aesthetics, in addition to greater survivability. I also redesigned the bridge; the new bridge blocks allowed for a stunning transformation.

Note that, after a jump, power usage can be quite high. However, I have not been able to make it go over 95%, so it should be fine. There's not much room to stuff anything else into this ship at this point.

I have tested this ship as being able to reach orbit from Pertam, and is hydrogen stable.

Building this ship in Survival:

Basically, go ahead and build the ship, just minus the Prototech blocks. Just remember to substitute in regular gyros for the Prototech gyros. The Prototech thrusters are not structural; just build the ship without them and, when done, install a large hydrogen thruster backed by at least one large hydrogen tank (or 1 tank and 1 large cargo container). You may have to adjust the conveyors slightly, but it's a super simple conversion.

Scripts Used:

Gravity Aligner by p3st|cIdE (run to keep you from tipping over and crashing in gravity wells)
Blarg's Ascent Cruise Control (activate it and let the ship take you to orbit)
Automatic LCDs 2 by MMaster
Whip's Auto Door and Airlock Script by Whiplash141
Whip's Weapon Salvo Code by Whiplash141 (makes the artillery fire in sequence rather than all at once)
SIMPL - Whip's Ship Integrity Monitoring Program (Lite) by Whiplash141

I'll get it posted at some point. Sorry, ADHD is a BITCH.

do you have a version of this before you added the prototech blocks

MAJOR update dropped, with Prototech thrusters integrated.

Merry Christmas, IMDC fans! Santa's sleigh has arrived! Just kidding, it's the Protos. But with a 6000km jump range, the new Protos can certainly get around.

I tried something similar a while back. It caused weird rotational issues.

It's two subgrids, with 2 blocks each, that should give zero jank.

I've looked into that sort of thing. It's just too jank and IMDC ships have never done janky things.

You could attach small grid gatling guns on rotors, even if it means you can't entirely print the ship in survival it would take literally 1 minute to add to the otherwise completed ship.

With so few turret mounts on the ship, and with how the ugly old Gatling turrets would stick out like a sore thumb due to this and their mounting positions, I opted to go entirely assault cannon. They're superior to Gatlings in an anti-fighter role, even if they're somewhat less capable of dealing with jetpacking engineeers. Swap out the rear two assault cannon turrets along the sides for Gatling if you want that feature. That's how I had it originally before changing it. Keen REALLY needs to give us either better Gatling turrets or large-grid autocannon turrets (preferably the latter). These old turrets just look absolutely terrible alongside the new stuff.
