Immersive Names

Description

Immersive Names (formerly Dynamic Province Names) is an immersion mod that changes names of provinces and countries depending on their culture and timeperiod, which means...
  • No more provinces in the Americas/Africa having European names before colonization
  • No bland and boring colonial nation names (ie. Portuguese Mexico..)
  • No more inaccurate or outright made-up names for some provinces
As of the latest update, this mod contains the following:
  • over 518,000 province names worldwide for roughly 120 cultures and nations
  • timeperiod-accurate nation names for every tag
  • (WIP) subject names based off the overlord's culture
  • accurate and immersive government names

You can disable localised country names in the Decisions tab.

This mod is not achievement-compatible, as Paradox made it so modifying the province_names folder changes the checksum

Certain cultures may not have much map coverage; be it due to time constraints or general lack of information; in which case the names will default to those of its' Culture Grouping (listed in the table below);
(ie. Rhenish > Germanic, but Kazakh > Turkish).

Actively making changes and updating this mod's codebase is very time-consuming and in an ideal scenario would require a team of people to proofread and verify the information - while I try my best to do so as an one-man army, at the end of the day you guys are the lifelines of the project. As such, if you'd like to contribute to this mod by providing translations for some provinces, click here to see a guide!

If you guys appreciate my work on the mod, you can donate to my bitcoin address here :)

Development of Immersive Names is indefinitely halted. As it becomes more and more likely that we will see EU5 release sometime this year, it doesn't make much sense to continue working on it. Rather than put time into modding a game that will quickly stop being maintained, I'll be porting the mod over to EU5 when it releases.

Sorry for the inconvenience. And yes, this means you have permission to upload your own expanded versions of the mod to the Workshop.

pls make one without tag names being changed

would it be possible to upload a version of this without the tag name changes? in theory i love the idea of accurate nation names, but in practice, my brain is too small to relearn who everybody is. amazing work though

Otherwise though AMAZING mod, beautiful!

many french place names are simply wrong, like Nantais, Orleanais, Salinois, and it seems to be a bunch of denonym variants of the real native place names, like if we called the USA "American" or if we called The country of france itself "French", fyi:steamthumbsup:

is this compatible with the converters, as in, if I add this into a converted gme from ck4, am I gonna be fine to convert to vic2?

It'd be great if you add Zhuang names, or at least add those from "Rosetta" mod
