Description
my first successful attempt at a map, kinda jank but you get what you get

run down town is a very old an rough neighborhood, riddled with crime and morons, the town itself was also built by morons, which would explain weird or dumb looking things that dont make sense (totally not me being dumb making the map nah what you on about)

This map is intended to be a jack-of-all-trades, by that i mean its got plenty of room for sandbox, plenty of areas for roleplays, stuff to explore or look at, even a small dedicated paintball area in the corner, also for stuff like maybe a zombie survival rp or gamemode you can come up with, or making a lot of NPCs fight eachother

Features:
a day, night and a winter version

AI nodes (may not be perfect but certainly there)

Navmesh (so you guys can run away from your little nextbots and stuff, ALSO THANKS CHARLES ENTERTAINMENT CHEESE FOR THE NAVMESH!)

the room of judgement.

every building having a detailed interior, while some or unfurnished to both give my potato a break when testing it and for people to furnish themselves for any roleplay

no 3D skybox because i am lazy

what you can do with it:

everything. i dont really care its just if ur gonna do something, id prefer if you gave credit, other than that, go crazy and have fun

NOTE: I made this on a very low end pc, so the map isnt what i fully wanted to do but somewhat more than i expected to make

Just know, it might lag on low end pcs, mine runs it well enough on low graphics, occasional lag spikes but its overall usable, anything better than an HP with 4GB ram should handle it just fine if you arent running 1000 mods or so

Cut content:
decently large and abandoned cold-war era fallout bunker, entrance under the train track's passage over the road and the subway, and sewers, possibly other areas

3D skybox (the final product was already kinda rough to compile and run, i could do it still, but i wanted to limit myself as id like for the map to still run alright, the skybox would've had plenty of low LOD buildings, a distant dirt race track, a river, a field and pond, and a large forest

one of the open/lit up office buildings were gonna be furnished, but i didnt want to cause any major lag with that however, i may make an updated version at some point if i get a better pc that has everything more furnished, but i think its ok the way it is now

air nodes, idk why, but they crashed my game and birds didnt wanna fly, then i realized: only maybe 4 people in total spawn birds or air npcs that use ai nodes (apparently helicopters and such use some other thing idk how to use yet)

the shelter under the apartments were gonna be a little bigger than they are right now

Pro Tip: Adding so many props is gonna lag your game no matter how good your PC is. Might want to tone it down a bit.

@carbonated shampoo thank you bro for the tip, also can you tell me how you make the ai nodes you make work?, everytime I try to do it and then save it, it won't appear with the .txt on the end just say gm_name of the map.

the ai nodes? in hammer i just kinda threw a million ground nodes all over the sidewalks, and at least 1 in every room, when i remake the map however ill try to do the nodes a bit better, i didnt use any hint nodes so in tight spaces ai might not know to go one at a time through doorways and such, also they arent all connected in the buildings and honestly i was getting a little bit tired of recompiling the map to see if every node connected, what i should've done is added nodes in every new type of building i was making before copying them around, so i would have nodes for every building while not manually putting down ai nodes in multiple identical buildings

but when i eventually remake the map when i have a better pc, i do want to see what i can do to have very detailed and good nodes, rather than just a million ground nodes slapped all over the map, it works, but it could be better

love the map, ever think of perfecting the ai nodes? also how do you make the ai nodes work im doing the instructions properly but everytime i save it, it wont appear as txt just text documentary.

i mean im not gonna try to do it on my current pc until i get a proper one, its an HP with only 4GB ram and integrated graphics, the only good thing is the SSD for the speed but even then i barely have storage, unity works just fine but thats only because i only made vrchat avatars, blender works a little slower and i gotta restart it from time to time, it slows down more and more as i work, and it has crashed a good few times, but ive still been able to make a fair amount of models i eventually want to port to gmod

holy shit this thing is just too hard, porting the map into blender was so easy but unity sucked SO bad. it was WAY too expensive on my harddrive, it is incredibly slow, and I just couldn't bother.

LED made a good video on porting source maps to blender, he does this method with TF2 maps in particular but i believe this can work with just about every map in source

what plugin do you use to port maps to blender? i looked up stuff and you can port blender projects into unity very easily, it's built in i believe. I just hope it will be easy enough for me to do it, because I know jack squat about blender and unity.

im not sure how it behaves with a BSP tho, id imagine it would look a little cleaner maybe, my friend did it but for whatever reason the textures dont come with it
