Description
The Coilgun Turret

The Coilgun Turret is a vanilla-based turret designed for high-precision combat. Statistically, this turret performs similarly to 2 small grid Railguns, but with smaller projectiles and a higher rate of fire. This Coilgun Turret fires its projectiles in bursts of 5, and unlike the Railgun, it doesn't need to charge up before it shoots. Instead, it consumes power during its firing sequence, and it recharges for a while afterwards.

The theoretical DPS and peak power consumption of the Coilgun Turret is the same as 2 small grid Railguns (1000 DPS and 7.20 MW, respectively), and the coilgun projectiles travel at the same 1000 m/s speed and 1400 m range as the small railgun sabots. The coilgun fires slugs that each deal 1600 damage (16 steel plates), and it can fire 37.5 of them per minute.

The Coilgun Turret's aiming arcs and tracking speed are similar to the Assault Cannon Turret's, but not quite as good as the Gatling Turret's.

This mod is ready for use in survival. It contains all build stages and all LODs, balanced material costs, and has been certified as fun to use by my friends.


CONSOLE USERS: This mod contains a custom script so that the weapon can consume power. It probably won't work on consoles.

Not for WeaponCore. Might behave unexpectedly if used with WeaponCore. This is a vanilla weapon.

@Eternal yes. VPF is compatible with any weapon mod as long as they are made with the vanilla code (AKA not weaponcore)

Great gun, i wish it could be 1x2x1 for the bounding box. Never understood why keen made gat guns 3x3x3 when they look like they fit in a 1x2x1 box

During placement preview, the gun part points backwards. That's a known issue, I presume? After placement, the orientation is correct, so, impact is cosmetic at best.

Hello @Elindis,

I'm working on a weapon mod with some friends and we've been looking for a way to do what you did here with a recharge after a burst fire, and we saw you're using a custom script. I don't have time to learn how to make scripts for Space Engineers as we'd ideally like the mod to be complete in around 2 weeks. Would it be alright if we modified your script for use with our mod? We would of course give full credit for the script.

The AI range being 800m is to keep parity with vanilla turrets. The projectile has 1400m range, which is also the same as the small railgun's projectile range. Maybe ModAdjuster is what you're looking for?
