Shattered Jewel

In 1948 the United States finally ended the Second World War after several years of immense bloodshed in Operation Downfall. Japan was left in ruins and the United States was permanently shaken by the much higher casualties than the American public was left to believe would occur. A political scene that only a few years earlier promoted global cooperation and interventionism to prevent another Pearl Harbor was shattered and sent back to the isolationist sentiments of 1941. In the post-war the United States finished up its draining occupation duties and withdrew from transoceanic affairs almost entirely. In the aftermath of the horrors of Downfall, and a rebuilding of Japan that only barely was able to build a "democratic" Japan, WWII was not a heroic war against tyranny but bloody tragedy many came to view could have been even possibly be avoided. After all, argued many, didn't US "provoke" Japan with sanctions and couldn't we have simply have had "negotiations" to end the war rather than bleeding a generation for a "pointless victory"? Isn't peace worth any cost?

It is now late 2022, exactly 100 years since the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was born in the embers of the Russian Civil War, and more people than ever around the world view the US decision to abandon involvement as a mistake. A market-oriented USSR and China are the world's most powerful countries and stand at the head of a vast bloc. The rekindled partners are increasingly dominated by new "left" nationalist ideologies that see potential coming crisis despite their seemingly dominant positions and want to claim the "rightful" positions of their nations and establish a Eurasian Hegemony over the world. The established order created at Helsinki in 1975 that ended the Cold War and created a true (if flawed) peaceful coexistence between East and West is now considered dead and buried. The Second Cold War has begun. The nominally Marxist regimes became rich on Western capital and now potentially threaten the greatest bloodshed since the 1940s. Only the targeted and divided regional democratic blocs are willing to stand up somewhat to the hegemonic intent. This includes the polarized European Union and its great powers the United Kingdom, France, West Germany, and Italy as well as a now bickering questionably committed bloc lead by Japan. The world in addition is covered by smaller regional blocs around the world formed in the global insecurity and instability following WWII between which tensions regularly flare up and proxy conflicts not uncommon. If the democratic powers of the old world, especially a Japan that ironically once again ponders the possibility of a mainland under threat, can not hold the tide against the potential aggression of the titans then the United States could well again face the consequences of the Shattered Jewel of the 1940s. This time the war could come home to roost and the US forced to face the consequences of its self-interested isolation in a way far worse than Pearl Harbor.

This is an early development alternate history mod I have been working on. I decided to release it to the workshop to get some playtesting and received feedback about the gameplay and universe. Much is missing, including the lore, but the world is currently at least playable. Please note that no country starts with units and production and unit design rosters have been greatly increased to compensate. This is currently much easier to do than a order of battle, though I *might* make that in the future. Additionally I recommend very high military difficulty and possibly the capture victory mode to provide wars that are more reasonable.

This mod can be used for multiplayer if first made into a multiplayer save and transferred. Alternatively the players can collectively transfer the workshop files directly into the Supreme Ruler 2030 folder.
