Jaggid's Improved Camels

Description
This mod tweaks the camels in the game, with the following changes:
  • Camel spawn slightly increased.
  • Tamed camels can be pet by survivors. Because who doesn't want to pet a camel.
  • Camels produce milk every few days, not just fertilizers.
(Yes, even the males...because I was far too lazy to figure out how to code it so only females produced milk.)

Survivors can drink milk for a small happiness buff (+6) or, if winemaking has been researched, they can make Shubat in a fermentation barrel which can be consumed for an even better happiness buff (standard alcohol affect, +15).

the male camels should get a happiness buff when you milk them

That makes sense. All things being equal, you'd rather they drink the beer that gives them +15 happiness than the milk that gives them +6 happiness, and be full.

It's weighted a bit less, yes.

Thank you for the information; sure enough it showed up after a bit.

I've also noticed that people do not seem to autonomously drink milk, despite it perfectly being safe and giving them a relaxation/happiness for doing so. Is it simply weighted less than other items or something?

There's a slight delay between research being completed and the recipes showing up on the fermentation barrel. More than a few seconds, but less than a minute, generally. So if you looked at the fermentation barrel right after completing the research it wouldn't show up yet.

The reason for this is that I didn't override the default research item, so shubat isn't actually unlocked by the research. Instead I put the research as a requirement for the recipe itself, and that leads to the slight delay.

Anyway, long story short, if you have researched Winemaking AND you have actually "discovered" milk (which happens the first time you pick some up), then the recipe should be showing up. Which fermentation barrel type you use is not relevant.

Note, you do have to have actually received some milk as well. The recipe has both the research and the discovery of milk as a requirement to be unhidden. I just tested it out and it's working exactly so in my game.

Okay at first I had trouble unlocking Shubat because I forgot teaballs were a fruit and winemaking requires a fruit. However, now I do have winemaking unlocked but I still cannot make Shubat in a fermentation barrel. I am using the scrap metal barrels if that makes a difference.

@Omega13, yep. After I first got drones I got a ridiculous, steady supply of manure from wild animals around my base. It's why I globally shut off wild manure production.

I figure it probably also has at least some impact on improving performance, though perhaps a small impact.

Yeah the new delivery drones kinda make wild manure sorta OP. just zoom out your camera every couple of days and allow all of the manure, let the drones sweep it up, and you get tons of free fertilizer (or materials for fuel if you swing that way). Removing it is probably a good balance. Also removes all of the weird stinky green piles cluttering the wilderness.

The milk just drops on the ground, just like the fertilizer. I'm far too lazy to take the time to impliment the actual milking process. It'd be cool, but I don't have that level of ambition.

I also changed it so they do not drop it if not tamed, and manure got sucked into that as well. Which means with this mod enabled, wild camels do not provide free manure, if you care at all about that.

(For my own game, I actually disabled manure being produced by wild creatures across the board. That's my own preference, because I don't think non-domestic mass-manure production makes sense at all.)

Loaded up an old Desertum save with this mod enabled and I can confirm that their camels can now have petting disabled, which they definitely could not before. Thanks!

Also while I am here - is the camel milk simply dropped on the ground like manure is or does it require a worker to come and milk the camels? And can the milk option be disabled if I only want the other features? Thanks again.
