Hey there! Before asking "when is the next update", please take a look at my Starbound Mods Status Sheet[docs.google.com]!
All information relating to my modding schedule and the current state of my mods can be found there! Thank you for your patience.

This mod isn't very complex. It's a singular patch file and a behavior file replacement that allows NPCs to greet you, and then randomly converse with you!
I am a sucker for dialogue diversity and often write too many dialogue lines for NPCs. I searched the workshop for a mod that does this for general NPCs and not just crewmembers, but I couldn't find anything. If you enjoy true random dialogue, this is the mod for you!
Unfortunately, to work around not all NPC types having a greet set, the greeting chance is no longer 100%. But, it's still somethin'!

Though, it does kind of change the "feel" of NPCs. When NPCs can only say one line in a village, it makes each villager feel unique in their own way, you know? But with this change, NPCs won't feel as unique, as they could go through every single dialogue line (if you keep spam-talking to them, at least).

This also affects NPCs that have diverse dialogue choices.
  • Example: If a modder has various lines referring to either a wife, husband, girlfriend, or boyfriend, the NPC may shift through all of these lines - which is confusing!
  • Example 2: If a modded race NPC has various reactions to another vanilla or modded race, they could go through every single opinion. From hate, to love, to neutrality.

Those are two unfortunate downsides to completely random dialogue. It's up to you to weigh whether or not the positives outweigh the negatives.

This mod is uninstall friendly! If you don't like the changes, just uninstall at any time, and NPCs will go back to saying one line over and over.

An apex told my kitsune character that their species aren't so dissimilar, maybe their kind could even fall in love. :SisterHappy:

Lovely mod though, added this to my modpack to spice up the gameplay a little and add a bit of immersion.

@Nefuki
I've been thinking about this more, and I may attempt to tackle it.
If I'm successful, it'll be a separate mod.

One thing I would wish was possible (but would probably require tweaking the conversation scripts) was a blend between this mod and the vanilla system. The idea is, making the NPC have the dialogue add a set of arrays that contain a group of multiple strings, then the NPC would store a value of which array it wants to use as some form of "dialogue personality". That way, the script would pick a random line from the array in that index every time it is interacted with, giving you a more consistent personality on the dialogue. You could have a set of lines for those that don't trust strangers in an array, then in another array, it could have a set of lines of a personality that loves outsiders. That way, you could have a NPC that consistently says welcoming stuff, or distrustful stuff.

@Arakon Русская версия не нужна - мод не добавляет новых диалогов, лишь позволяет НИПам говорить больше чем просто повторять одну и ту же фразу

Привет! Будет ли русская версия?

"It's a singular patch file that allows NPCs, vanilla OR modded, to shift through their available dialogue lines instead of only repeatedly saying one."
Vanilla NPCs select one dialogue out of many and stick to it, no matter how many times you talk to them. This mod changes that.

I feel confused... I'm pretty sure that NPCs already say random lines. Did this change at some point?
