Description

For CK3 version: 1.16.2.3

Are you like me and you like playing the 867 start date, but don't like how certain Big Historical Things just never seem to happen? This is a mod I made for myself to encourage a few of those things to be far more likely without outright brute forcing them, and it works well enough I thought I'd share it here for anyone who likes the idea.

NOTE: THIS MOD PRIMARILY AFFECTS THE 867 START DATE.

Features

Scandinavian Adventurers and the Invasion of Neustria
Scandinavian adventurers have been updated in general to make them more logical and more varied. The size of their hosts will depend on their personal impressiveness, for instance. Special attention is paid to prompting a Scandinavian adventurer invasion of Neustria around 900AD -- this can be set to be specifically Hrolfr Rognvaldrson (he who will one day become Rollo), who also has a personal game rule to be one of three starting versions, or it can be set to be any available adventurer... or none.

The Normans in Sicily
Sometime after the creation of Norman culture, usually in the mid-11th Century, a large band of Norman brothers will appear in Sicily as landless adventurers. Starting with a rebellion in Apulia, they will try to find their fame and fortune in the area and, if fortunate, will try to form the Kingdom of Sicily.

The French Invasion of England
The mod prompts a Frankish ruler on the north coast of France to claim and invade England sometime after 1050AD, setting up the creation of English culture.

The Decline of the Karlings
The Karling dynasty will have a rough time of it up until 900AD, with a much higher chance of accidental deaths and miscarriages. The early death of Lotharingia's king can lead to the division of his realm between West and East Francia.

Salic Law
Frankish and Central Germanic rulers will have their title and realm laws switched to Male Only inheritance at game start, reflecting the existence of Salic Law at the time.

Creation of the Holy Roman Empire
Catholic kings in Central Europe (East Francia, Bavaria, Lotharingia, and Italy usually) will aggressively pursue the creation of the Holy Roman Empire. They'll have access to decisions that will prompt them to demand subjugation of the weak and invade targets in a logical manner only when they have the means to actually defeat them. This usually leads to the creation of a Holy Roman Empire, one which can be quite varied in its size and shape.

The Novgorod Expansion
Members of the Rurikid dynasty, as well as aggressive Norse rulers (or recent converts), who have their capital within de jure Russia will be encouraged to demand subjugation from their neighbours and pursue expansion within de jure Russia up until 1000 AD, promoting the creation of a larger Novgorod realm.

The Empire of the North Sea
Between 1000 AD and 1040 AD, AI dukes and kings in Norway and Denmark will be pushed towards consolidating holdings in both kingdoms (in a logical manner, so as not to overextend their forces), and a single strong king of Norway or Denmark can launch a claim on England across the North Sea.

The Mogyër Threat
The Mogyër will receive additional forces when they begin their migration into Hungary, some of which will be inheritable by their successors (so they aren't immediately vulnerable the moment the migration ends). Mogyër dynasty heads will also have the ability to summon horse rider hosts to their command once per lifetime. This means a much larger and threatening Hungary, so long as the realm remains stable.

NOTE THAT IN ALL OF THE ABOVE, NOTHING IS GUARANTEED. IF THINGS VEER TOO WILDLY OFF COURSE SO AS TO MAKE THE CONDITIONS IMPOSSIBLE, THE EVENT STILL WON'T OCCUR.

Game rules exist to turn off or adjust almost all of these features, as you prefer. You can find a more detailed breakdown of the features here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will You Include Other Historical Events?

Maybe. It really depends on whether or not I'm interested.

Mod Compatibility

This isn't going to be compatible with any Total Conversion mods (and why would you expect it to be?), and there might be issues if it's a mod that changes anything regarding vassalage or alters how Scandinavian adventurers work (since I override the fp1_scandinavian_adventurer_events file directly).

If the mod does deal with vassalage, it might still be fine - but one mod or the other is going to win out if there's a conflict regarding the Offer Vassalization or Offer Fealty character interactions.

If you want more info on how it interacts with specific mods, see the discussion thread here.

Can I Incorporate This Mod Into My Own?

If you like, certainly. Just give me credit somewhere.

Translations
(I take no responsibility for whether these are kept up to date)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to report any issues, and I'll deal with them as promptly as I can. If you have suggestions, I can't promise I'll include them, but it's quite possible I'll be expanding the mod in the future, so who knows?

Have you considered doing Harald 'Tanglehair's conquest of Norway and/or a second invasion force led by the viking Guthrum, as mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon chronicle invading East Anglia in place of Ivar 'the Boneless'. Additionally ,if the invasion of Northumbria is successfully won by the vikings, grant both the ruler of Jorvik and Guthum (if alive) the historical territories of the Danelaw?

Ahh no dont get me wrong, this wasnt a request for your mod, I was just trying to hear what you think if this would be possible with triggers in the game.
Rylock  [author] 13 Jul @ 7:09am
@Tito Lounge No, I'm not going to implement anything like that, sorry.

Thank you!
I played around a bit with the female_salic_law trigger and got an idea: Do you think it would be possible to simulate the iure uxoris with a similar trigger? So if a ruler has only a daughter, his son-in-law would inherit his titles. It always bothered me that CK3 didnt accounted for this principle, seeing how important it was for many realms in the middle ages.
Rylock  [author] 28 Jun @ 5:47pm
@Tito Lounge It's the female_salic_law_check on_action that fires from the on_death on_action.

Hey Rylock, could you tell me which file you edited for the Salic Law gamerule so that women still get claims through their parents but wont inherit the titles?
Faninfo_YT 12 Jun @ 8:58am
OK so after retesting it does not come from this mod, so I'd need to look more into it
Rylock  [author] 11 Jun @ 9:56pm
@Faninfo_YT I'd need more info, as I'd need to be able to re-create the issue - and I haven't seen anything like that. At the very least, what other mods do you have running? Because I'd suspect it's less an issue with this mod and more an issue with what this mod is doing that some other mod interferes with.
Faninfo_YT 11 Jun @ 12:00pm
Hey, I noticed a bug that cause adventurer 0 years old named "Placeholder" with the incapable and immortal trait to keep spawning, I deactivated the mod and it work fine now. If you have any idea of what is causing that.

@Rylock Thank you for the update you made.I'm also confused about this sudden death event or random_dynasty_member.
