Star Wars Zann Consortium Bes'uliik Class Cruiser

After the success of the Shatter Class Destroyer Consortium engineers continued to try to improve the design. Zann ordered them to cease their efforts as it wasn't feasible. Reluctantly they agreed, forced to realize that it wasn't a viable option and abandoned the project. This would all change after the events of Forces of Corruption. Silri's discovery of the sleeping army set in motion a chain of events leading to the development of the Bes'uliik Class Cruiser. Zann along with Urai, upon realizing her discovery rushed to her location as they had been carefully tracking her movements as they did not trust her. This fact not shared outside the two of them nor ever spoken of. Their intent was to eliminate the sleeping army before it could be awakened and destroy everything they had built.

They succeeded. Silri was defeated and taken prisoner. However, upon the loss of the army it triggered a program long dormant as information was downloaded to Tyber's ship and datapad. Information on the Yuuzhan Vong, their goal, superior organic technology, and the coming invasion. To Zann's horror he realized he had just destroyed the very army intended to halt their advance. Leaving this galaxy completely unprepared for the invaders. Silri also did not know of the army's true purpose. Zann, after carefully considering whether to reveal this information decided the risk was worth it and informed her of the truth. Silri, at first distrustful was utterly horrified by the Yuuzhan Vong, an evil so complete that even the dark side of the force seemed to cast a bright light. She vowed she would not rest until they were utterly destroyed, no quarter given, no method not considered. They would burn, their gods would be rejected and their faith erased. The three of them would do whatever necessary.

The Consortium quietly disappeared as the three of them quickly and efficiently went about a massive restructuring and shift in operations. Tyber would then remember the abandoned project to upgrade and improve the Shatter Class. With the new structure of the organization he could not risk projects and operations that could be revealed by Vong operatives to their masters. At this point he contacted the Chiss, informing them of his knowledge of the true threat they were holding the line against from the archive he had discovered.

The Chiss, always suspect of outsiders were at first even more wary as he knew what was going on. But after careful consideration, with Silri, Urai, and Tyber Zann submitting to whatever they deemed necessary to verify their intentions, an accord was reached and their partnership began. Tyber and his enterprises would silently funnel vast amounts of resources to the Chiss. In return the Chiss would handle keeping the Consortium a non entity and no longer existing.

The Chiss had great interest in the Consortium's unique projectile technology, especially the Shatter Class. The development of what would become the Bes'uliik class started once again. Engineers, scientists, and leaders of both sides putting their all into Project StarSabre. Determined to make a weapon that could crush the invaders and doing whatever necessary to secure the technology and resources needed. Eventually Tyber himself along with his engineers would hit upon several ideas. One being the plasma-throwers utilized in the final design.

The final design utilized and embodied the tenants the Consortium always used to gain supremacy over those, who by all conventional belief, should easily crush them. Unconventional, sometimes shockingly cheap, and exceptionally effective solutions that no military or political leader in their right mind would consider and laugh off as complete idiocy due to all conventional wisdom dictating the opposite, Vong or otherwise.

The first thing to change was the size. The original was far too large, slow and heavy, to win against Vong ships. After size and mass were trimmed down the next step was adequate thrust. Extra unneeded areas of internal spaces were also removed or trimmed down to cut costs and remove weight while leaving a comfortable, solid, and functional structure. The Mass Driver in the center was also replaced with four much cheaper, lighter, and smaller Particle Accelerator Cannons developed with input from Chiss scientists. The result was a main gun battery staggeringly cheaper that had far greater range and whose each individual cannon had slightly greater firepower than the original Mass Driver without accelerators with double the fire rate, for a absolutely astonishing level of firepower that could utterly decimate and tear apart ships from far outside any traditionally conceivable ship to ship engagement range, Vong or otherwise.

The plasma-throwers projected waves of directed searing plasma akin to a Lightsaber but without a magnetic containment field whose wide area of effect and overwhelming energy output dovin basals on fighters and attacking frigate to cruiser class ships would be unable to stop completely. Taxing them to the point of failure without needing precise aim or sophisticated top of the line targeting systems. They were also exceptionally cheap, easy to maintain, and light with low power requirements to boot. The combination of severe cost reduction and decrease in mass also allowed for thick layers of extremely dense and fairly costly armor plating to be added to the exterior, plus massive upgrades to engine output and power generation to give it shocking top speed and maneuverability akin to a ship of vastly smaller size, flying more like a fighter buzzing around much larger slower ships. Even frigates and corvettes were either somewhat slow and/or unwieldy by comparison not being able to match its speed or maneuverability. The cost even with upgrades was less than the original.

Once the final prototypes were ready for a field test in mock battle with Chiss forces Tyber insisted the Chiss bring at least double his forces. The Chiss infuriated by his "arrogance" brought four times instead, expecting to handily beat these new ships and crush his pride with superior tech and tactics but understanding they would be far more effective against Vong ships. The reality would shock them, it was a one sided fiasco.

They began by eliminating targets of opportunity from range using speed and maneuverability. Fighters and bombers had no chance as waves of plasma obliterated them. The plasma incinerating shield and ship alike, serving not just as anti fighter but anti projectile as well. Point defenses never even needing to fire they were so effective. Ships that attempt to close to engagement range ran into waves of plasma backed by rapid firing single turbo-lasers stripping shields and ravaging the hull while other ships using their speed and maneuverability slammed PAC rounds into them as the ship engaged would break away and escape using its speed and maneuverability before taking too much damage to be replaced by a fresher ship. The Chiss fleet was completely outmatched and quickly lost half its ships with the other half being damaged in varying amounts. The prototypes though low on shields withdrew using their speed and proceeded to mop up every remaining ship from outside their engagement range. The Chiss were dumbfounded, they had arrogantly assumed they were vastly superior yet the final tally showed 100% losses by the Chiss with not a single one of the prototypes damaged in any meaningful or effective way.

Zann smiled at the military leaders and strategists in the command room. A cold predatory smile and hunger the Chiss were all too familiar with "The Vong's arrogance will destroy them. They will feel fear like never before as they shatter against us" Project StarSaber was a unparalleled success. The ship class took its name after the Mandalorians of old. The Bes'uliik Class Cruiser was born. A weapon to rend the Vong asunder by their own arrogance. The flagship was named "Venom's Kiss"
