Foreboding Skies / Fog

Description
Will darken your environment without affecting color correction.

Recommend using my flashlight mod in tandem

What this is:
This is a collection of simple Cvar and VMT edits focused on manipulating the fog and skybox to appear darker.

Due to the fact these changes override fog, some areas that have dynamic fog in game (such as Hard Rain's storms, and Blood Harvest's cornfield) will not function as they usually would and may look strange compared to what you're used to.

If hosting a game with this mod enabled, your joining players will be able to experience the extra darkness; however, if they are not subscribed, they will most likely not receive the VMT changes. This will make certain maps look a bit mismatched in the skyline. Particular maps this would be noticeable in is Death Toll's Trainyard, and Dead Center's vista/smoke.

Just fog version. No skybox changes:

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. I think im just gonna use the version without skyboxes

The darkness effect is primarily handled by client-side variables. This means it affects all maps blanket wide and I can't do anything about it without knowing how to reliably invoke the variables on specific maps when they load in. Texture edits are surprisingly minimal, mostly changing baked fog colors to black or removing separate fog skyline effects entirely.

If im correct, along with darkened fog, you also changed textures for all skybox to make them appear darker. If that's true, then I want the L4D2 skyboxes to remain unaffected by it. Im asking if its in your plans to do that? Because daytime maps look weird with darkened skyboxes, since sun light is still there.

Can you clarify what it is you want? To me it sounds like you like the darkened skybox effect for L4D1 maps, but dislike it for L4D2 maps. Are you looking for new skybox textures for L4D2 maps? Do you want the L4D2 maps to remain unaffected by this darkened skies mod?

its not universal

No, i mean, you can definetely change the skybox texture for separate maps.

@Joystick Unfortunately, the Cvar and VMT edits are blanket wide. There may be a way to just load the Cvars on L4D1 maps with a script that checks which map is loaded, but I'm not sure how to go about that.

can u make a version that includes darkened skyboxes for night maps? Because they dont look good with day time maps, like dead center, but i want to keep them for l4d1 maps.

@Luigkilly Ah. Unfortunately, the Cvar and VMT edits are blanket wide. There may be a way to just load the Cvars on L4D1 maps with a script that checks which map is loaded, but I'm not sure how to go about that.
