[LWotC] Jeow's Infantry Classes

Description
»»»»»»»»»» Disclaimer ««««««««««
1.) This mod REMOVES the 9 Soldier Classes in LWotC from the pool of Classes that are available for rookies to promote into. This should not affect soldiers who are already one of the LWotC classes, but it will mean no new soldiers will be promoted into normal LWotC classes until you uninstall this mod. If you'd still like to play with the original LWOTC Classes as well as mine; instructions are below in their own section.
2.) Install all required mods or this mod WILL NOT FUNCTION.
3.) This is my first mod. Any feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Overview
Jeow's Infantry Classes mod replaces the Soldier Classes from LWotC with 5 Soldier Classes. Each has powerful skill trees that offer 15 main sub-archetypes (3 per soldier class). Each Specialization is intended to be followed relatively closely to maximize effect. The Specialization name indicates the kind of tactics should be capitalized on.

Features
  • 5x New Classes
  • Stat Progression changes to suit each class
  • Renames Ranks for each new class
  • Officer Abilities included in Team Leader class

REQUIREMENTS - NOT OPTIONAL
1.)LWotC
Majority of perks and systems are from LWOTC

2.) XCOM2: War of the Chosen DLC
Needed for LWotC

3.) All REQUIRED ITEMS for LWotC
I've added them to the REQURIED ITEMS list -->

Requirements - Recommended
Choose My Class
I highly recommend using this mod to ensure you don't get multiple unwanted Team Leaders within the same squad. Part the fun of my mod is to pick your Soldiers Classes and build them how you think is best!

Restoring LWOTC Classes
LWOTC uses code in their XComClassData.ini to remove the Vanilla Soldier Classes from showing up in the game as you Promote Soldiers. This mod does the same thing to the LWOTC Soldier Classes and is easily reverted if you'd like to use their classes too! Open the XComClassData.ini within this mod folder. Then follow the instructions under "LWOTC CLASS REMOVAL BLOCK START"

Acknowledgement
This mod is built off the LWotC mod and I'd like to tip the hat to the amazing work by their team. Truly inspired me to start coding, reading their work was very clear and intuitive for someone who is not well-practised in coding and I was impresside!

I'd like to thank L0rdr4t, Venator, Tedster, inukealot, Copyrite, Iridar and Zelfana for helping me to understand the process and produce my first mod. Your insight was invaluable.

SOLDIER CLASSES
1. Team Leader
A replacement for the Officer system provided in LWOTC, the Team Leader provides a range of benefits, buffs and aura's to nearby friendly soldiers and is meant to be a less-violently-active force on the battlefield, but still has the capacity to deeply effect the flow of battle. Rank Names do no match certain Research, Upgrade and Mission requirements, but the Team Leader's actual soldier level requirement is still met, so don't fret if something requires a "Major", it just means it requires a Corporal (Normal Soldiers) or Master Gunnery Sergeant (Team Leader).

Specializations:
  • Objective
  • Offensive
  • Defensive
  • Tactics

2. Rifleman
The Rifleman is the bread-and-butter of the XCOM fighting force; a true grunt with the ability to specialize in either full-frontal assaulting, marksmanship or rendering medical aid. Essentially serves as 3 classes in one and will likely make up the majority of any fighting force.

Specializations:
  • Assaulter
  • Marksman
  • Corpsman
  • Grit

3. Force Recon
The Force Recon unit is ideal for covert operations, reconnaissance and sniping. Stealth, accuracy and raw-damage-output are the main tools at the Force Recon unit's disposal.

Specializations:
  • Sniper
  • Spotter
  • Scout
  • Discipline

4. Fire Support
The Fire Support soldier is inflexible in equipment, but extremely flexible in battle tactics; either focussing on raw-firepower, exploiting flanks, or locking down the enemy under punishing supression and overwatch.

Specializations:
  • Gunnery
  • Flanking
  • Fire Support
  • Doctrine

5. Combat Engineer
The Combat Engineers express their flexibility through their equipment, having a wide rage of secondary equipment at their disposal. Explosives and close-quarters tactics are how they deal with their adversaries.

Specializations:
  • Breacher
  • Grenadier
  • Demolitions
  • Zeal

An odd issue I've come across was that the force recon is unable to equip the holotargeter, instead only having access to a combat knife, It could be something to do with configs but do you know where I can have a loot to fix this?

For the fire support's corporal 1st class perk, the flanking tree has Hunter's instinct, while the doctorine tree has Lethal, there's no reason to pick hunter's instinct since Lethal adds an unconditional +2 damage (and +1 crit) while Hunter's instinct adds the same amount only when flanking.

Unless the intention was to have players with the option enabled to buy multiple perks on the same tier have to spend training points to get both instead of easily stacking both for a monster.

Oh and, not only does it not work - it completely ruins the game by making both its and the long war classes completely dysfunctional - and the stated fix does nothing to help this. Neither does verifying the files, or reinstalling the game. Cool.

Shame it doesn't work. Promoting soldiers past the first rank leads you to a blank screen.
Risitas_Fanboi 23 Mar, 2024 @ 11:03pm
man this actually looks very interesting, damn shame it requires LWOTC

So I really like this mod. The classes over all feel good and play differently with different build set ups and I like that.
However one thing I will say is the lack of anyone who gains hacking skills is rough to deal with. You lack a core part of dealing with bots and lose you on a lot of resources from having low hacking skills.
there also isn't a ton of diversity in terms of gear to use. Not sure why the combat engineer gets the nade launcher AND the sawed off. Maybe think of giving the sawed off to the rifleman for the assaulter branch? Or to the team leader? Maybe open them up for different builds.
If you are gonna give everyone a knife, could we at least use it? Or use any melee weapon of our choice? I'd love to have my team use the spec ops knifes instead to give them a more commando feel when sneaking through the base. Rather than a bulky knife on the back.

Over all, Love this mod. It's great and I'm gonna keep using it. Just hope to see more good stuff for it!

@sergio_A. Never use the 2k launcher. Use the mod launcher that has been made by the community, see here: https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher

@jerow These classes are slowly growing on me, they're really fun and I can tell each one attempts to compliment the other, well done. One suggestion I would say is regarding custom class icons, otherwise the classes are blast. :coolthulhu:

@sergio_a I highly recommend you drop the 2k launcher and use the Alternate launcher instead, it'll save you a lot of headaches going forward. :ss13ok:
