2LW Inspired: Tiroyy Gun Battery

Description
Inspired by the legacy 2LW Project Altrius Maps. The third Map in my "Inspired" Series:



THIS MAP IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED WITH AND IS BALANCED FOR THE 2ND LEERSOG WAR WEAPONS/SKINS PACK. REPLACING MG TURRETS WITH ANY HOWITZER MOD IS HIGHLY ADVISED FOR THE INTENDED EXPERIENCE.


"At 0920 this morning, minutes after the Syrvanian Chancellery issued a Declaration of War to the Royal Court of Hettland, military forces of the Republic launched a surprise offensive against fortified Hettic positions near Praegan. Breaking through with astounding speed and ferocity, advancing units now flood across the Hettic frontier; driving toward the town of Tiroyy, a critical transportation hub and major crossroads. However, Pro-Syrvanian civilian elements have alerted the 1st Mechanized Assault Division of the Home Army's intention to rapidly re-arm and garrison the defunct Tiroyy Gun Batteries throughout the Praegan Uplands. Should Hettic forces succeed, the main roads into the town will be cut, allowing precious time for retreating Home Army units to reorganize, endangering the entire northern offensive. Seize the batteries, force the roads open, and push on toward victory!"


THE MAP:

Depicting only one of the batteries assaulted during this operation, the map centers on a battery of five gun emplacements buried in a rocky escarpment near the tiny village of Radzna. Close quarters fighting inside the battery is complemented by medium and long range combat during the approach. Mostly comprised of rear echelon units and disorganized, retreating infantry; Hettic forces here are too weak to retake terrain. Though unlikely to hold the approaches for long, it's certain that they'll provide a stiff defense of the battery and it's entrances.

Locations:

Eagle Start: East Crossroads, West Crossroads.
Unclaimed: Radzna, Praegan Road
Raven Start: Flanking Position, Forward Observation Cupola, East Battery Entrance, West Battery Entrance, Tiroyy Main Battery.

This map should be quite challenging for defenders, and is particularly fun playing as them. Retaking locations is also much more viable with player support.

As a Syrvanian (Eagle) attack map, they're provided several troop transports and a light tank in their assault.


BEST PLAYED WITH 120-180 UNITS, WITH EAGLE ADVANTAGE.

(I can't guarantee that turrets or vehicles from other specific mods will be positioned correctly, as it was tested with only the above mentioned mod. Sorry!)

how about aa for howitzers instead? that way, you could still add regular mgs and anti-tank emplacements

Easily my favorite of the 2lw inspired series, but my biggest complaint is how the howitzer replaces the MG instead of the AT. I think it would make much more sense replacing the AT gun.

Okay, I'll try that out since I've been trying to do a sort of Finnish Mannerheim's Line Defence because this map would be perfect, I'll subscribe to the feldhaubitze 13, because that should fit in, and was probably used by the Finns. Thanks for the help, and great map!

I'd recommend OspreyGunner's Feldhaubitze 13 howitzer for this map: it''ll give an epic "Saving Private Ryan" feel to the map.

The howitzer that comes in the 2nd Leersog War Weapons Pack doesn't target enemies nearly as well, but that's an issue with the howitzer. Still, the map was made and balanced for rest of the weapons/vehicles in that mod, so using vanilla equipment might skew it the intended difficulty significantly.

You need to have a howitzer mod downloaded and then replace the MG slot with it, as shown in screenshot 7. If you've done that correctly, then I don't know why it wouldn't spawn correctly, you'd be the first to have the issue.

Eagle has three troop carriers (in vanilla, jeeps) at their start locations, capture Radzna to gain acess to the light tank (vanilla APC) which helps capturing the Battery Entrances considerably.

@Urocyon. I don’t know why, but no matter what I do with the maps configuration, the howitzers don’t seem to spawn in? I’ve played it before, a while ago, and I believe it worked fine then. Also, does the eagle team spawn with tanks, because all they’re spawning with are the jeeps I believe?

Huh! Good to know about the lighting issue (I'm terrible at that kind of troubleshooting!) I'll see if I can't have a fix for it soon.

Initially, I had planned on one flag for the battery: the defenders would've come from throughout the battery to defend the gates. However, pathfinding issues showed that it was necessary to create multiple flags with smaller defense radii, and also put constraints on the size and placement of the radii.

As for as my final tests, Eagle bots seem to be able to employ smoke somewhat regularly when assaulting, at least when using Altirus Kit, and when in a large enough wave, can take the gate without player help. I agree though that the spawn placements are tight, I've been thinking about adding spawn basement to both gates, if possible.

oh, that's a decimal point problem, depending on the game's language it may fail to register a decimal point on the user's end. Setting the light objects to whole numbers will fix it for everyone.

so this is a very interesting attack-defend layout. I noticed that the flanking bunker positions are nearly impossible to capture as blue using normal means, i think that the combination of the flag position, small cap range, and very nearby spawn point causes a lot of problems for attacker as they round that blind corner.
