Mallus: The Old World (Mortal Empires)

The base map was purchased from HamsterAndAnvil, and was heavily modified to be more suitable for a Dominions map.

Designed to be compatible with the Sombre Warhammer mod.

The Advanced map is extremely large, and thus it's recommended to play with a high number of AI or players.

The Simplified map is designed to be more robust and balanced with fewer factions.

Neither map has any Sea regions included, as having them increased the turn load timers considerably.

Mortal Empires is designed to focus entirely on The Empire and a few surrounding areas. It includes the Empire mainland, the Elvish island of Ulthuan, the Dwarvish Karak mountains, and the Tomb King deserts. It includes a limited number of Sea regions.

Of all the maps in my Mallus package, Mortal Empires is the most balanced and Dominions-esque. If it is your first time playing on any of these maps, it's highly recommended you start there.

Advanced and Simplified are not lore accurate. Some consessions were necessary to accomodate gameplay. The WH mod mostly has nations that start within The Empire, which makes relatively poor gameplay, so some were forced to the west. These issues are mitigated in Mortal Empires, however that leaves The Empire very congested.

This map uses assigned starting positions for the Warhammer races, but uses default placing logic for base game races.

ALL resources used to make these maps are located in the mod folder, including the .xcf files which can be opened using GIMP 2.1. This allows you to easily modify any aspect of this map. However if you publish your changes to the workshop, please take care to differentiate it from my versions and consider crediting me with the original work.

If you enjoy the map, please be sure to give it a rating to help spread its popularity.

@ndd I would recommend turning off forced start locations if you're encountering balance issues.

As for the other issues, a good portion of the areas on the map don't have lore names. So either I can come up with random fake ones (which would take A LOT of hours to do), or I can just write their descriptors, and rely on people to press [Go to Province] during an event.

All of the map raw data files are located in the download. I invite you to make the modifications you are after, then upload to the workshop when you're finished.

Playing as chaos dwarves, this map is unplayable. You start in mountain provinces, and cold weather prevents movement. Love the artwork and everything, but it needs some more work on province connections to be playable, and many of the provinces just have generic names. So my events list looks like:

Event in Coastline
Event in Coastline
Event in Mountains
Event in Coastline
Event in Mountains
etc.

So I would say it's close, but not yet there.

I really like some aspects in your map, such as cities (a separate province set in the middle of a land province) and their economic importance. Congratulations and thank you for this work!

Oh, ok. It might be useful to show the starting locations for all the factions. I typically try and make sure the 3 Empire factions are aligned, but yeah, it is crowded around there.

@Marshall Davout all of the WH factions. If you don't want a clustered Empire early game, consider removing Altdorf, Middenheim, Kislev, or Brettonia.

So what races should I place to set this up in 'standard' fashion?

Love the map, but there seems to be some connections missing. Is playing as Tilia and my starting province on Sartosa doesn't have any connections to the sea. Tilia have acces to units that have sailing (Privateers), and I would love to be able to actually use that unit to ferry my unist around.
