Description
Please Note: This mod is designed to work with 6's Cloth Production Expanded. You will need to download that mod to use this mod as it relies on the Spinning Wheel and Looms therein.

This mod adds craftable synthetic polymers (requires a research by the same name) - fibreglass and nylon thread during the late industrial era. The former can be used as a building material, or forged with steel to make plasteel (seriously, look it up. Plasteel was actually a thing). The later is used in crafting synthread, and hyperweave (given nylon is a synthetic it just made sense).

Crafting Stuff

Nylon Fibres are produced in the Drug Lab from a solution made from 75 Chemfuel and 10 Neutroamine. This produces 1 sheet of Nylon, which is broken up into 150 fibre fragments as part of the process.

30 Nylon Thread can be spun on the Spinning Wheel using 5 Nylon Fibres, and 30 Cotton Thread.

Nylon Fibres can also be made in Fibreglass using a Smelter. This take 150 Nylon Fibres, and produces 25 Fibreglass.

Using the Loom, 20 Nylon Thread can be crafted into 5 Synthread Cloth. Alternatively, Hyperweave Cloth can be made with the additional of 10 Devilstrand Thread.

The Industrial Loom can create cloth directly, saving resources in the production of both materials.

Finally, Plasteel can be crafted by smelting 15 Fibreglass with 15 Steel. This produces 15 Plasteel.

Now with For Science! achievement! (requires Vanilla Achievements mod)

Fyi: I've included patches for this in my CPE update (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3516299224) so that it works automatically despite the changed defNames in my version.

@Monkey Magic, if you'd like to handle compatibility differently, just let me know.

@Awellner - Um, yeh. I neglected to add defensive values coz - IAH, I did not considered fibreglass as armour material, figuring it would mostly be used for buildings and structures, and possibly for cheap early game weaponry.

Given that you have a flak helmet though, I have added those missing values in an update just now. In keeping with it's theme, I have set these values as what I believe should be appropriate.

Comparing normal quality flak fibreglass, and steel helmets, the values appear as:

FIBREGLASS ( STEEL)

Sharp - 42% (63%)
Blunt - 42% (31.5%)
Heat - 14% (42%)
Insulation (cold) - 0.6c (0.5)

Basically fibreglass is mostly weaker than steel, except where blunt impact is concerned (due to it's flexibility) but suffers where heat is concerned. Still better than wood (for example, plate armour) though

I bought a fibreglass flak helmet from a trader and when inspecting it doesnt show its sharp and blunt armor values. Are they just hidden or does the flak helmet not provide any armor when made out of fibreglass?

This is really cool, I'm for sure going to use this in my next run. I'll also link back here for others to see from my mod page. Cheers!

The first screenshot says it's 1 neutroamine with 75 chemfuel, but it's actually 10.

Please note, if you have a wall of screaming red errors, please either ignore them (not recommended) or disable all your mods, and repopulate them to remove any issues caused by the name changes in the 7th April 2024 update
