A-21 Airstriker "Iron Sentinel"

Description
If you enjoy this vehicle, i would highly appreciate if you liked it and shared it with a friend so more people can see my builds, thank you!

Things to know when using
-Optimal collective is 60%
-If engine starts to overheat, turn collective to full so it can run at a lower rps
-When dropping bombs, make sure to have the bomb bay open, and do a pitch up motion so the bomb doesn’t fly back into the bomb bay
-The plane has a low stall speed, landing speed is about 75-90kts
-Sometimes rounds from the light guns on the wings hit the side of the plane when yawing, sometimes destroying the cockpit door. Use the welding torch in the cockpit to repair it
-Infinite fuel and electric is not needed for flight. -Infinite ammo is recommended
-A counterweight is built in the aircraft for varying bomb loads. This can be adjusted on the outside of the aircraft on the side. If the plane tips backwards after spawning it in, put the counterweight all the way forwards and it should level out.

Features/Facts/General Info
-200kts max speed
-Variable collective
-Armament of 1 heavy cannon, 2 light auto cannons, 2 wing hardpoints with rocket pods that can be detached, and 27 small bombs
-Engine fire suppression system
-Long range
-Reverse thrust
-Equipment in the cockpit such as: Parachute, welding torch for small repairs, first aid kit, and a pistol
-Dive siren

Notes/credits
-I did not make the gun sight, it is made by Lazakamikaza: Reflector Gunsight
-This plane is heavily inspired by the Douglas A-26 Invader.
-Thanks to 4gagek for writing the lore below!

Lore
The AirForge A-21's long story of its use during World War II has made it a legend. Due to the amount lost during World War II and the Cold War, it is a rare sight to see them in Museums and other historical institutions, yet their stories of bombing runs and sinking Japanese ships live on in the memories of those who served with it. The A-21 Airstriker, an infamous World War II and Cold War era bomber that earned a reputation for its durability and its offensive ability.

On December 7th, 1941, Imperial Japanese forces bombed the US Naval station at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, destroying many large United States vessels and killing over 2,400. The next day the United States declared war on the Empire of Japan, in the now famous address to congress by Franklin D Roosevelt. In turn the United States would also be at war against Germany, however the A-21 Airstriker was not heavily used. In late 1942 the USAF was looking to find a capable bomber to use in the Pacific campaign. This is where the A-21 Airstriker came to light. The plane was shown to the U.S Airforce where its low cost, reliability, range and offensive powers were shown. Rather than going with one plane, the United States air force decided to purchase different types of planes. In 1943, 400 A-21 Airstrikers were ordered...

In January of 1944 the first A-21's took off and were praised by pilots who flew in them. Of them include future president George HW Bush - the youngest American pilot during WWII. In March of the same year the A-21 had its first large success when it sank the IJN Satsuma. Furthermore, it participated in the bombing of Japanese cities. The A-21 was too large to land on Aircraft carriers at the time, which meant that it needed to have a large range. This would come in handy for some of the mainland bombings during late 1944 and 1945 where the bombing runs would be far away from aircraft carriers and air stations. The A-21 would be the only plane capable of doing these tasks, thus out of the 400 planes built, 290 of them got either lost, shot down, or damaged beyond repair.
It is also important to mention that the A-21, although not in large numbers, were used in Europe against the Germans. The Second World War came to an end in 1945 which left many planes obsolete. However, the remaining A-21's would still be a good aircraft as their range made them perfect bombers in a hypothetical war against the Soviet Union, who was a former United States ally. The A-21's were heavily stationed in West Germany where they could be quickly deployed incase of a war. During the Suez canal crisis as well as many other moments during the 50's the world held its breath as it only seemed like it was getting more tense between the superpowers. The last major time the A-21's were used was during the Bay of Pigs invasion, when at that point there were only 30 of them left.

The A-21's long story of its use during World War II has made it a legend. Due to the amount lost during World War II and the Cold War, it is a rare sight to see them in Museums and other historical institutions, yet their stories of bombing runs and sinking Japanese ships live on in the memories of those who served with it.

Interesting. Never knew this. The source I looked at must have been outdated.

"From the 15,000 Navy and Marine pilots who qualified, there were numerous men who would go on to become important figures in US history. Among them was future president of the United States, George H.W. Bush, who qualified aboard the Sable, became the second youngest navy pilot of WWII, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Another famous figure in aviation history was Ensign Charles S. Downey, the youngest naval aviator in WWII. In fact, Downey wrote a letter to former President Bush after Bush claimed to hold the title at age 19, not knowing that Downey was actually 11 days younger, and the two later met in Bush’s residence to reminisce about their days flying for the Navy. Downey would go on to earn the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic actions in the Pacific and became the Captain of the Naval Reserves at age 39—the youngest man in the history of the Naval Reserves to attain that rank."

@flakhappy, George HW Bush is known to be the youngest American Pilot for the Navy in World War II. He was only 18 when he volunteered. - National WWII Museum.

I also have two microcontrollers that will replace all the logic blocks and give you more room

Always happy to help. I fixed the gear issue, you also had the parking brake off upon spawning, I fixed the logic so now is on by default, cut the bomb load by half which helped the gear issue and gave it a proper d-day paint scheme, and converted the gauges to show RPM, MPH and temp in Farenheight

Good to know! I might not include all of these fixes on this aircraft, as it would be too much work for my currently busy schedule, but i will be sure to take that information into account in any possible future builds like this. Thanks!

Good aircraft. Some thoughts:

Nice history to establish the lore but I would switch the pilot as everyone knows that GHW Bush flew in the Navy. Also , Chuck Downey is credited as the youngest naval pilot beating the former president by 11 days.

The air force wasn't incorporated until 1947. before that it was the Army Air Corps (USAAC) and then the Army Air Force (USAAF) . Invasion stripes were applied in June 44 when the majority of large aircraft still used the Olive Drab paint scheme. The stripes were ordered to be removed immediately after the invasion. Natural metal wasn't common until late in the air war (post D-Day) when opposition was non existent.

If you are showing later service, ditch the invasion stripes and use the insignia with the stripes in the bars.

*beef up the landing gear. Most play with low physics and the gear collapse. also when taking off the gear look like spagetti.

*the controls are ultra twitchy. I suggest a dampener or a gyro to help with that.

*Maybe use an Alt hold.

*change the throttle to w/s and the collective to 1/2

You've got a good build. with those tweaks it has the possibility of being great.
