A red land

Description
This mod is much akin to my "A red sea", but affecting land unit recruitments, and not being as all encompasing so as to make research and buildings pointless.

What it does do, however, is to make many mid-tier units more readily avaible, by making them recruitable by the most basic military building and upwards. This to promote the AI recruiting them, rather than make an entire army of say levy spearmen and THEN have better units made avaible, at which point it won't recruit them into the full army.

It also, mostly, makes more sense. Sparta SHOULD be able to recruit Spartan hoplites from the start, Macedon SHOULD be able to recruit pikemen and not just levies, Arverni SHOULD be able to recruit spear warriors...and so on.

I haven't made units recruitable by anything but the proper military buildings, (so no recruiting eastern cavalry from infantry tents, for instance) but many basic units are now made avaible from the first appropriate military building, rather than the second.

Anyway, here's the list of the units affected by this change:
Principes
Legionaries
Legionary Cohort
African Pikemen
Pikemen
Spartan Hoplites
Persian Hoplites
African Large Shield Warriors
Swordsmen
Arabian Noble Swords
Numidian Noble Infantry
Eastern Horse Archers
Parthian Horse Archers
Median Cavalry
Persian Cavalry
Spear Band
Spear Warriors
Galatian Swords
Guerilla Swordsmen
Dacian Spear Warriors
Round Shield Swordsmen
Lusitani Guerillas
Scutarii
Illyrian Raiders
Steppe Armoured Lancers
And Thorax hoplites are now recruitable from the third level of the greek barracks, like their pike and sword brothers, rather than the fourth level.

Hope it helps your enjoyment of the game. :-)

GREAT

Flashman, the legionaires and cohorts are tied to a technology, so even if they were recruitable from level 1 cities they wouldn't show up till the reforms were researched. Legionaries replace hastati so their already recruitable from the field of mars (tier 1 recruitable)

Sure, go nuts. :-)

Heya, would you be ok with me using this idea for a ai recruitment mod I'm working on?

I like this idea alot, the higher tier units just come so late. I often don't play games past 100-150 turns so I rarely see AI use anything other than basic levies and hoplites etc.

Hmmm, curious, I'll look into it.

Hey setrus, I was using this with a rome campaign, and principes were available at barracks tier 1, but apart from that, all roman recruitment was the same as vanilla, cohorts didn't come earlier etc.
