Description
Savannahs are among Earth's most important biomes, covering about 20% of its land surface. Generally a subtropical semi-arid mix of open woodland and grassland, savannahs range from mere shrub fields to lush forests. Civilization does not represent a lot of variety in the more habitable terrains.

This mod aims to change that at least a little by adding Savannah as its own terrain feature to spawn on desert tiles, making them more useful and allowing a wider variety of resources to spawn there, creating a better transition between fertile plains and the rather inhospitable sand dunes. But beware of desertification! If you remove the feature for a quick boost of production material, you will quickly be left with just barren rock.

Does not require any expansion but is compatible with all DLC.

"High-Detail Clutter" must be activated in the graphics options for Savannah to look like it does in the pictures.

Features
  • Savannah can now appear on flat Desert terrain, providing +1 Food and +1 Production.
  • Supports strategic view.
  • Should work with any map script.
  • Savannahs have their own custom resource allowance, mixing resources from desert and woods / rainforest. Supports all the major resource-adding mods out there. See below for full list.
  • Custom model for Pastures built on resources in Savannah.
  • Can have wildfires with the Gran Colombia & Maya DLC active (which adds forest fires as disasters).

  • Bonus resources able to spawn on Savannah: Cattle, Deer, Sheep
  • Strategic resources able to spawn on Savannah: Uranium
  • Luxury resources able to spawn on Savannah: Coffee, Diamonds, Ivory, Spices Amber
  • Modded resources able to spawn on Savannah: Gold, Obsidian, Aloe, Lapis, Lion, Tiger

I recommend using this mod together with Vegetation Diversity. With both mods active, Savannahs will blend into adjacent Woods and Rainforest seemlessly, adding even more flavor to vegetation. For improving Desert Hills more, check out Stone Rocks!

Compatibility with Sukritact's Urban Identities: new Savannah region type and Silvopasture identity type.

Seems like it but idk if there are any hidden obstacles to take care of. Never tried it though and don't plan to.

thats a shame.
is it something that could potentially be fairly easy added in?

No, they cannot.

Can builders plant savannah?

Thanks for the info. I ended up going through the map and manually adding Savannah tiles to GreatestEarth, but then Savannahs didn't spawn any of its resources so I had to manually place some of those in too lol. Tedious but now the world feels complete with all the modded Features finally there.

No it's just a difference due to how the features are added. Savannah is added by changing the forest placement script. Premade maps don't use that script. Swamps are added with the floodplains script. I think custom maps need to run that one to actually make their floodplains work as such (otherwise you get the standard Earth map issues where floodplains don't flood and don't allow dams).

I'm not getting Savannah to load on custom maps (Greatest Earth, Saph's, etc.) but Swamp from Wetlands is, which is weird because you'd think it'd be both or neither. Spawns fine on vanilla maps though. Anyone else having that problem or is it just my mod setup?

Hey JNR, just want to say after coming back to CIV 6 for a couple months of every year, your mods are always part of my experience and I'm always eager to see what new things you add. Great job, you're a pillar of the mod community.

Is anyone else having a problem where they can't see the savanna even after turning on high detail clutter? Any advice on how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
