Denser Vegetation (Standalone)

Description
Welcome to the Jungle! No more social distancing for trees. Turn your forests into actual forests with dense growth. Also gives forests unique looks based on terrain so you can still identify what's underneath based on the type of forest you see. The changes are entirely cosmetic, gameplay is not impacted in any way.

"High-Detail Clutter" must be activated in the graphics options for the mod to take effect properly.

If you are using the Civ V Environment Skin, please use the other version (click here or see in Collection above).

Special thanks to Firaxis developer Brian Busatti who made the Civ V Skin, parts of which I used as a basis for this mod (and also served as inspiration for the color varieties). Credit for the deciduous trees also goes to Firaxis, they were already part of the game as an unused asset. I only retextured them slightly.

Full Features
  • dense broadleaf forests in flat land, spare coniferous forests on hills.
  • plains forest has more of a yellow tint, grassland forests more of a green tint. For better distinction (especially in the fog of war), plains forest also has another type of thin, tall tree on both flat land and hills.
  • tropical trees make up flat land jungle, with little undergrowth. As you go up the hills, the jungle becomes lighter, with more gaps and brighter plants, which are mostly shrubs with lots of undergrowth.
  • More rocks in forest on jungle on hills to make hills more visible.
  • forests and jungle now hug mountain tightly instead of leaving an awkward empty gap.
  • a few more palm trees in oases.
  • resource tiles now properly grow forest and jungle at full density, if present.

This is a great mod!

Gotta say that having actually dense forests and jungles again actually makes the game look a LOT better. It's such a small change and yet it's very impactful. Brilliant work.

I noticed that Truffles still have the vanilla trees (basically no trees) isn't this mod supposed to make the woods denser on resource tiles as well? Maybe it's a bug?

I was tweaking your mod and making similar to civ 7 where grasslands have pines and plains have oaks, i think it helps more differentiate the biomes.
Anyway thank you for your wonderful mods and work 💜

Nice to see a mod author who is still active and replies. :)

Yes, apparently a lot of people hated it. I do have other plans though where a more interesting mix might feature again.

Did you remove flatland Tundra woods having green trees mixed in recently? Was that intended?
I might be in the minority but I always liked the mixed look it gave

I will revert that soon, I tried making forest floor more distinct. Didn't mean to push it live, I just wanted to update the name the mod appears under in the mod manager, lol.

I have high detailed clutter on and I'm getting brown colors underneath on the ground beneath forest and jungle. Is something missing or not compatible?
