White Tundra (HL2 Custom Campaign)

Description
Black Mesa East has ordered you to infiltrate their rival facility, by the name of White Tundra, and rescue a vortigaunt inside.

WARNING: I am an amateur, casual GModder, since I have only very basic knowledge of Hammer and no knowledge at all on how to use VSIF2VCD, which means that this campaign is by no means perfect and has flaws here and there. This would affect your overall experience with it, but it shouldn't stop you from completing it. Any feedback is appreciated.

WARNING #2: On the fifth map (level7part4niklasb), you come across a pair of turrets in a raised platform you cannot reach (unless you noclip or use an addon that allows you to climb walls). Unless you have an addon that allows you to destroy armored NPCs with conventional weapons, the only way to disable the turrets is throwing either a grenade, launcher grenade, or other projectiles from explosive weapons at them to tip them over. Since caches of grenades and launcher grenades are scarce along the way, you will have to save them for that moment on the fourth map, or you can spawn more of them if you run out.

NOTE: After rescuing a vortigaunt during the final map (level7part5niklasb), when you enter the dark hallway after he destroyed the locked doors blocking it, the campaign ends at this point. It's not like the credits roll or the screen even fades to black, the campaign just ends rather abruptly, with nothing happening after that. Just letting you know.

DISCLAIMER: This custom campaign has only been tested in sandbox singleplayer, with the only mods being tested with this map are MMOD effects, MMOD HL2 weapon replacements, ARC9/MWB/TFA/TacRP SWEPs, Combine Soldier model replacements, VManip addons, and HUD addons. I'm sorry to say this, but I cannot guarantee the campaign's stability if you use more complex addons (such as the ones that alter NPC's AI) and/or play it in multiplayer.

ANOTHER DISCLAIMER: This custom HL2 campaign is not mine, as I laid out its original information in the lower part of this description. If the original author wants me to take it down, I'll do so.

level7part5niklasb (LAST)

ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN INFORMATION

White Tundra is my Half Life 2 Level that I turned into a campaign. The level was first a part of a class project on The Game Assembly but was developed further as a single player campaign where the player goes through a secret base known as White Tundra. The Campaign is supposed to centre around the Abyss of a hero Journey making the combat challenging and the Level design a piece worth remembering.

White tundra reveals all the madness the combines planned to take over a city. The level is surrounded in mysteries and a game-play that is altered between fast and slow.

This project was a showcase for me to show my skills in the Hammer Editor, which was my first editor. It allowed me to show good understanding in scripting, level designing and advanced BSP-structures through Hammer.

The amount of bugs, glitches and some error on the maps is crazy. This is the only Ported maps i did not enjoy a single bit from the start of the game.

This time, right before that vent ends at the room, there is now an access to the second vent right above it by jumping to it. Get to the aforementioned vent via that access. While going through that vent, you'll hear slamming sounds and see a light fixture at the left dogleg-shaped turn ahead of you, which should indicate that you are doing this step correctly. Following that, there is a 4-way intersection, where you should turn left, and then break the vent cover before you, which leads to the exit of the second vent. At that point, you have gone around the puddle.

Hope that helps. BTW, I have also provided a walkthrough video (NOT MINE) of the mod that should help you with the particular section of the mod.

@Talon About the electrified puddle of water, the second part of the second map is actually the third map (level7part2del2) just for clarification. Anyways, you are not supposed to jump over the electrified puddle that is after the lobby. Instead, turn right before it and after the desk and into the dimly lit hallway that leads to a dark observation room, past the locked door to the room with a zombie inside. In there, look for, break the cover of, and go into the first vent, which leads you to the said room. Go there (breaking another vent cover right as the vent ends), kill a zombie inside (which should unlock the door), and then open that door and go back to the dark observation room to re-enter the first vent.

Am I missing something in the second map for part two? I keep dying to the electrified water even if I try jumping around it.

Also, there seems to be a near-issue with the transition between maps 2 and 3, just a very few steps in the wrong direction on map 3 and you're right back in map 2 and vice versa.

@christob Yeah. I've never even heard of that gun before, nor have tested it in this campaign. Besides, the only SWEPs I have tested this campaign with are MWB, TFA, TacRP, and Arc9 weapons. As explained before, other (especially older, as LazarusOregon says) SWEPs have not been tested and are more likely to destabilize your gameplay with custom campaigns, such as this one.

I have a so-called "Eagle Gun" (from the old www.garrysmods.org website) cannon that gives the players super-high jumping abilities, plus infinite explosion. I recommend NEVER EVER using that gun at the end of the final map, it WILL freeze the game (even on the x64 branch) more often than not because of how many breakables there are.

@TexTonic13 I just tried R E B E L I O N in GMOD. The campaign softlocked at the beginning of the second map, where the dynamite does not explode (like it is supposed to in order to clear the path for me), preventing any further progress. Since I have little-to-no experience in Hammer, and I could risk breaking the map when I try to fix it, R E B E L I O N is a no-go for GMOD. I am very sorry.
