Books From Paper

Description

This mod is an add-on for Vanilla Books Expanded.

It:

  • allows production of paper from wood logs at the art bench or stonecutter table.
  • creates a medieval research project for paper production and makes it a requirement for Vanilla Books Expanded's writing research.
  • replaces ingredients cloth and wood logs with paper in any writing recipes.
  • adds leather (for the binding) and dye to the ingredients of book recipes.
  • adds dye as ingredient for the newspaper recipe.

With Expanded Woodworking (Continued):
  • moves paper recipe to woodworking table
  • allows logs as well as lumber as ingredients for paper

Other supported mods:
Children's Books
Printing Press
PropagandaAndManifestos; with an adjustment for balance: recipes produce 10 propaganda/religious flyers from 1 stack of paper
Write Fictional Books

Credits
The texture for the stack of paper was adapted from that of a single piece of leather.

Update: Appears to work fine with 1.6. (Added the possibility to mix ingredients for the paper recipe, which is relevant if you use Expanded Woodworking.) Let me know if you encounter any issues.

Added support for Printing Press . The copy recipes now require paper and ink instead of cloth.

@bblkepling I've added you mod to the list. (What a neat idea!)

I made a mod called Children's Books, I added patches on my side so recipes are in line with this mod when installed together.

@o.s.c.y.p. Thank you for the feedback! I might rethink the market value and cost when I have the time to look into it.

(although on second thought, I feel like 20 wood per piece of paper might be closer to what the VBE authors originally intended)

This is great! I'm using this mod together with RIMMSqol to set paper production cost to 10 wood and paper market value to 10 silver ($1 market value for something that costs 30 wood to make is way too low). This way, writing books can be somehow profitable (while still taking a whole lot of work).
