Description
WHAT IT DOES

It adds 27 silver-plated elegant weapons for a more civilized age. They range from an accurate reproduction of a historical Oakeshott Type XVIIIe Danish blade or historical ancient swords, to fantasy elven blades and the Daywalker's Blade from Blade movies. Just pick your poison and ignore the blades that don't fit your lore views.

The blade of all of them is actually made of ebony, and thus does high damage (the DPS is actually on par with Daedric,) but is silver-plated for maximum damage against supernatural beings.

They can be crafted with ebony, silver and leather strips. All can be enhanced with a silver bar, since if you used a grindstone on these blades, it's the silver-plating you'd need to replace afterwards. I.e., it won't be cheap or easy to make, but it gives you something to work for.

The weapons are:

1. a cup-hilt rapier with a silver-plated blade. Less damage per hit, but fast and counts as a dagger for stealth attacks.

2. a parrying dagger, which in this case means just a dagger with a very wide cross. I.e., it doesn't actually do anything extra for parrying, and is usable as a normal dagger.

3. a broadsword, loosely based on Oakeshott Type XVIIIa swords. The fancy ricasso isn't particularly historical for that type, though.

4. The Great Dane: A two-handed Oakeshott Type XVIIIe sword. Used almost (but not completely) exclusively in Denmark, hence the name.

5. The Daywalker Blade: exactly what it sounds like. It's the sword from the Blade movies. Fast like the rapier, and has the same stealth attack bonus.

6. a silver zweihaender: this actually has a blade that's slightly too wide for a real German Zweihaender made for combat (though ceremonial models could be even more massive), but it's more in-line with the existing Bethesda greatswords, for those who like their fantasy weapons beefier.

7. a silver ceremonial zweihaender: any sword with this broad a blade would be either ceremonial or an executioner's sword (though those had no piercing tip.) It is however the most in line with Bethesda's silly huge greatswords.

8. a silvered Ayleid Sabre. Useful for playing a certain silver-haired dark elf.

9. a silvered Ayleid Dagger. It's basically the Ayleid sabre, only cut down in length to be a long dagger or a short sword.

10. a silvered Ayleid 2H Sabre. It's basically the Ayleid sabre, except with nearly an extra foot of blade length, and a longer handle too.

11. a silvered Blademaster's Blade: "Schwarz The Terminator became High Blademaster because nobody ever answered his simple question: 'I'll be the boss. Any questions?'" :p Largely hexagonal, fullered blade profile, almost half an inch thick and nearly five inches broad at its widest.

12. a silvered fantasy greatsword: The key word being: great. A pure fantasy blade, loosely inspired by one of the Neverwinter Nights swords. It has a blade 55-1/2 inches long, half a foot wide at the base, and about half an inch thick.

13. a Shashka: a historical sabre used by the Circassians and Cossaks. Same stats as the rapier, including speed and stealth attack bonus.

14. a Greek Kopis: Not to be confused with the Egyptian Khopesh, they are unrelated. This is the sword that Xenophon recommends for cavalry. 25" blade, 2-1/4 inch at its widest. Since it is really short-sword sized by medieval standards, it gets the same stats as the rapier, including speed and backstab bonus.

15. a Dacian Falx. A brutal forward-curved sword that could pierce a Roman helmet or split a Roman shield. It actually forced Trajan to stop the campaign and order armour upgrades for his legions.

16. an ancient Greek Xiphos: a piercing sword carried by the Hoplites, in addition to the spear. This one has a 22" blade. Because by medieval standards it is rather short, it gets the same stats as the rapier, including speed and backstab bonus.

17. a Diphos: a fantasy scaled-up 2h Xiphos, invented by Zombie Tools. Mine is based on a real Xiphos, though, not on their blade. 33" blade, 3-5/16 inch wide. Same stats as the Great Dane.

18. a light sabre: a light cavalry sabre. Essentially the shashka on a different hilt.

19: a cutlass: same as the sabre, except shorter and broader.

20. a kilij: in the 19'th century, these were considered to be some of the best cutting swords. The yelman (flared part at the back near the tip) is actually sharpened, which can be useful for the back-slash animations with some of the Dance Of Death finisher moves. 3 ft blade. Same stats and materials as the broasword.

21. a 2-handed kilij: a fictional scaled-up kilij, for those of us more into two-handers. 4 ft blade. Same stats and materials as the Great Dane.

22. a Szabla: just means "sabre" in Polish. Out of the many models they used, this one is basically a slightly less curved kilij blade on a cavalry sabre hilt. Same stats and materials as the broasword.

23. a Chinese Niu Wei Dao ("ox-tail sabre"): same stats and materials as the broadsword.

24. a Chinese Butterfly Sword: a dagger with a 11-1/2 inch long and 2-1/4 inch broad blade, that's a staple of half a dozen Kung Fu schools.

25. an Ayleid falchion: fantasy blade inspired by one of Adonnay's sword for DA:O

26: an Ayleid 2h falchion: same thing, scaled up to be a two-hander

27: a Swedish swordstaff: as described and illustrated by Paul Dolstein, a landsknecht who encountered them first-hand in the Battle of Elfsborg in 1502. Apparently the Swedes had made these out of swords.

HOW TO GET IT

Before you can craft them you MUST find and read the book describing the secret of their construction. There's a secret about the silver blades, you know? ;) Actually, like for any book, just opening it will suffice. This will give you a hidden perk that allows you to craft the weapons.

One copy of the book has been placed in the Driftshade Refuge, on the first table you'll see when you go in. Just go down the stairs, open the first door you run into, and it'll be on a table to your right. The second copy is deeper down in Driftshade Cellar, in case you missed the first one. It will be on the top shelf of a bookcase, in the room with a big brewing vat. Again, just go forward until you open the first door in the cellar, and if you see a big metal container right in front of you, the bookcase will be against the wall behind it.

See the included pictures for where the books are.

If you don't know where the Driftshade Refuge is, just join the Companions in Whiterun and follow their quest until you get sent there for the axe fragments. It seemed the most logical place for knowledge about silver blades.

Then you can go to any smithy as soon as you have some ebony or silver, and craft your unique weapons as a reward.

Note that you do NOT also need the ebony smithing perk to make them, since you're delayed in getting them by having to follow a quest line or at least be strong enough to kill the hostiles there anyway. However ebony smithing still makes a difference for sharpening them, as usual.

Alternately, if you just can't be bothered to get it in game, just type "help rapier" (without the quotes) or whichever weapon you want in the console and use player.additem to give it to yourself.

HOW TO INSTALL IT

For the Steam version, just subscribe it on Steam and let Steam do the rest.

HOW TO UNINSTALL IT

For the Steam version, just unsubscribe it on Steam and let Steam do the rest.

KNOWN CONFLICTS

None. It shouldn't conflict with anything.

Note that since this does not add recipes for the vanilla silver-swords in the game, nor replaces them, but only adds its own assortment of silver blades, it will not conflict with any mods that deal with the vanilla silver swords.

Oh, you meant just the message? I thought you wanted the bonus gone.

Hmm... true, the message does get in the way of seeing the enchantments. Only problem is, already people are asking if I forgot to put the bonus on the items that don't explicitly say so in the description. Still, I can see how being able to see the enchantments would be the greater good...

Thanks for fast reply! I've edited esp file. Just deleted weapons descriptions so now I can see damage when enchanting. I really love this mod. Cheers!

Mind you, nobody's stopping you from renaming the .esp, opening it in the creation kit, which is free, and removing the silver weapon script off them.

Probably not.

Any chance you'll make version without "effective against undead" bonus?

And version 1.28a has been uploaded to Steam too, bringing the number of blades up to 27. The new blades are:

- Ayleid falchion: a fantasy sword with all the right curves in the right places, inspired by one of Adonnay's swords for DA:O. Bit paddle-like, tho.

- Ayleid 2h falchion: same fantasy sword, with a longer blade and much longer handle, for fantasy use.

- Swedish swordstaff: something apparently the Swedes made out of swords and used in battle in 1502. There is some speculation that the Norse atgeir (hewing spear) might have been the same kind of weapon.

It's declared as a battleaxe for the animations, but has the stats of a greatsword.

I figured that if anything can be argued to belong in Skyrim, an exclusively Scandinavian weapon would probably qualify. Plus, Sweden's national day is coming up.

(If you want the blade on a normal sword hilt, you can find it as the Type XV in my Arming Swords collection.)
