- Map Description

NOW UPDATED TO UPDATE 7!

So there's a ton of ways to play this. It's up to you! I've added tons of different diverging routes for water, extra spots for drainage and even added several spots of using the special overhang pieces to help you, and it's meant to be conquered! I will be honest you can survive the first bad tide on hard, but I haven't tested beyond that. The map will be hard to make it to the far side. The terrain as well as the badwater are your enemies here - just like with Factorio.

In a way if you play the Thousand Islands map it is somewhat similar with how the water and badwater mixes with each other.

Droughts are you friend, as you can traverse large areas of land without interference. Iron Mines will be more difficult to get to due to some being underwater.

So the map is the same area as 256x256 (65536 tiles).

Regardless have fun! I tried to make the resources more or less distributed fairly well but it's not perfect but you shouldn't be losing the first few cycles but isn't a cakewalk either.

I do recommend trying to get the Farmhouse and Forester ASAP!

How did I make a level larger than 256?

I'll paste what I said in the comments:

.timber maps files are actually just a zip file. You can change the extension to .zip to see there's two files that compose a map (Along with the version, map image, overlay, etc). map_metadata.json is what you see in the menu when selecting a level showing info (i.e. 1024x64) and description, all it does is affect the menu.

world.json is the file that contains the world data. You can change the width and length, and it also contains all of the arrays of each tile of land and water stored in the level. So for a 256x256 level, there's 65536 entries in each array. So if you want a level that's larger, make sure the array's in question (that contain numbers with spaces and colons and are stored for the land tiles and water levels) are the same as the area of the map.

I just made a 256x256 level, and changed the width and height to be 1024x64, since both equal 65536 and I didn't have to edit the arrays. Make sure you have it exact, otherwise the game crashes when loading the level if one tile is off.

i just used a mod to make a giant map. i wanted 1024x128. since i understood it correctly, it wouldn't work with the way you made it. but thanks for responding.

Yeah's that exactly what I did. I created a 256x256 level and just edited the with and height values with a text editor, the just opened the map up in game to edit. It works fine in the editor.

can you convert the map to the new size, then open it in the map creator to edit it?

I'm guessing that's what you did.

I love the updated version of the map. Pardon the pun, but it flows a lot better now.

Yeah, I think once the update comes out proper and bugs for it are fixed I'll most likely update it once I have the freetime to do so.

41 Cycles in, probably the longest I stuck around for a map. Not sure how I feel about how easy it is to clear out the Mine surrounded by two badtide sources (dynamiting to the Map Exits feels a little bit like cheating).
Some of the terrain also needs a little updating for U7 I think, but it isn't too bad (especially once you have access to dynamite).

I've played this map for around 13 Cycles on Update 7 so far (Normal Difficulty, no Badtides), and I must say I am delighted. There's so many fun engineering challenges to take on here!
Will agree with Mr Denuto about the scrap though, at least the closest Ruins could do with about 20% more scrap.

I love Chile

This should be delightful with Ziplines! Can't wait to try it out.

A great map that does lack scrap.
Would be perfect with 30% more scrap per location
