Description
Vassalize Your Friends

This mod through the power of dilemmas gives you and your friends the options to surrender in PVP games and become a vassal of the stronger player. Multiple Dilemmas occur depending on the strength (size) of your faction giving the weaker player and opportunity to submit, acquire small boons or ultimately submit to the stronger player.

I built this mod because I play larger group games and while there are gentleman rules that you can just make up, I liked the idea of having vassals in the game vs ‘ally the defeated player’ so they’re not wiped from the game.

Some of ya'll may have came across my alpha version a long time ago. I finally got around to fleshing it out. Let me know if you find any bugs. I haven't thoroughly tested this with a large group yet.

Features
  • Dilemmas at certain thresholds that give boons and consequences.
  • Ability to vassalize human players.
  • Mutinies.
  • Compatible with IEE & Mixu

Additional Credit
Zach - for making this possible by allowing me to not only utilize his DB knowledge of effects but the generous offer of allowing me to use his PC to constantly test this in MP games to get it just right. You can find his workshop here.

@xiivait the only listener is during events, if you're at peace, or you make peace, the dilemma would only appear at the beginnign of the turn (that's when it checks if you're at war) so i'm unsure how you were able to send a diplo request without already resolving that dilemma this turn.

Could you please consider adding another option when sending a peace request:
“I just want to end the war”, with no consequences?

Context:
I tried to extort my friend — asking for all his money in exchange for peace — and because I sent the peace request myself, the mod interpreted it as a surrender on my part.

I understand there may be technical limitations in how the mod handles peace mechanics, but would it be possible to include an option like:
“I just want to end this war — no consequences”?

This would help differentiate between tactical surrender and simply choosing to stop the war.

Thanks for the feedback Xiivait!

One of the things I need to clarify and i haven't edited the mod dilemmas to reflect this, is that folks 1. Need to read but 2. I need to clearly define what will happen during a mutiny.

Honestly, this really needs to be part of the base game.
In multiplayer campaigns, not everyone has the same level of experience, and no one actually enjoys steamrolling their friends who have way less playtime and wiping them out of the campaign.

With this mod, attacking them becomes way more fun — they can put up a fierce fight, and when they eventually lose, they don’t just disappear; they’re forced to join your cause.

On top of that, the absence of this kind of mechanic in the base game actually pushes the community toward a PvE-oriented playstyle — mainly for the reasons mentioned above. There’s no real power dynamic that can emerge, so most campaigns just end up being pure co-op against a weak AI (unless you mod it to be smarter).

I've been waiting for a mod that allows vassalizing another player through diplomacy for so long, especially with the bonuses given to Chaos Warriors' vassals.

@sigfield I wish.

Is it possible to have a variant of this mod that simply allows vassalizing another player through diplomacy?

Been trying to get it to work with my friend. Could you add a list of the thresholds and requirements to get started with vassalization? Thanks!
