Conspiracies of Ptoh

This is a genotype mod that adds several character ideas I've been tinkering with to the game, largely themed around Ptoh and the abstractions of the mysteries related to it.

Random names are generated using the Seekers of the Sightless Way as inspiration, but use a unique table.

Please use the preset loadouts/callings instead of making a custom character using the subtypes for the intended gameplay experience; I'm still learning and wanted to put this out as a proof of concept and gather feedback. If you have any suggestions or requests, please comment below!


Presets:

Nihil
A suit of living(?) armour surrounding something unfortunate. Nihil features a Recall Story option on the armour that constitutes its form.

This armour cannot be unequipped, as it makes up Nihil; in the future I'd like to iterate on this. At the moment, there are likely to be issues with some interactions. Food that provides Quills may make the chest piece become unequipped (so please be mindful of that as Nihil is designed to keep it, and the helmet, on at all times); going forward, I'll iterate on any issues if you report them.


Nix
A bird that can't help but set itself on fire now and again (may increase the regularity of this with a custom defect as the core design is 'Oh no, I'm on fire!'); birds do not care for Nix as they do the Crane Widow as, well, no-one loves being on fire all the time.

In an ideal world, I'd implement some kind of 'If you die, become a weaker being and try to keep going' system with Nix, being able to work back up to where you were before (despite the challenges) may make for a unique and strange gameplay loop but, for the time being, it's basically just a custom tile with some really overtuned quickness (in the preset, at least).


Motte
A little moth-thing that spawns with a unique weapon, the Amaranth Candle; this can be used to cast Laze, though the Motte cannot use mental mutations without it (this is currently only when using the preset, which I recommend you do).

The limitations here create an interesting interplay between starting as a caster with little to offer and transitioning into a lategame brawler (Laze also makes it hard to gather loot in the early-game, so you're managing what you can afford to lose or which fights to take more aggressively); also includes a Recall Story option on the Candle.


Crane Widow
More a conceptual character than a function-driven design as of yet, the Crane Widow has a penchant for practical skills, but little capacity for combat encounters from the outset. She has a little more starting reputation with birds, too.

Considering giving her tools to start with that mitigate this lack of relative identity; open to suggestions, though.


Infinite Jest
A socially repugnant little thing draped in ichor-stained robes; it is not clear where this cosmic jester emerged from, but befriending folks through use of Beguiling serves as a cornerstone of gameplay for it.

As this is my 'main', or 'the character I play as whenever I play Qud', you may notice some little touches that make it more unique; such as custom water ritual dialogue and of course a Recall Story for it.

@Vorpal Void Hi, thanks for letting me know about this issue.

This shouldn't affect gameplay in any way, it's just a typo on some unfinished quest-related content that made it into the live build. I'll push an update that fixes the typo shortly.

This shouldn't, in theory, cause issues for you or anyone else. Hope you enjoy the mod!

@Thighs That's rad! I haven't played with the Tzuso mod yet (I do have it installed however) and I just might have to give it a whirl this weekend with an Esper playthrough i've had in mind. Will be watching this one with interest! : )

@Redd Hi Redd, thanks for the kind words. I'm in the process of working on adapting this mod to be more 'play as these characters' without the messiness of non-presets to play as that muddy their intents.

In an 'ideal world' scenario, I would wrap up the questline stuff I'm working on, at the moment, with the Tzuso mod really well and be happy with it then come to this with fresh eyes and honed skills with the systems to create something Ptoh worthy.

A lot of things regarding that are on the cutting room floor, at the moment, and I wanted to push this out as a proof of concept to start with and iterate on. There is an outline, on paper and in my head, for a questline and ways it'd work.

@Daisy You need the candle to use mental mutations on Motte if you use the preset loadout, which picks up Chimera (this is my intent with Motte). Without using the presets, you can ignore this limitation, but I see the presets as the intended way to play.

Do you actually need the candle to use mental mutations on motte? Or do you just need to have light manipulation?

I adore this mod and its aesthetics, do you have any further presets or content in mind? Ptoh and its mysteries deserves more stuff like what you've made.

@Gokudera ElPsyCongroo - I have previously, but uploading from in Qud can cause Workshop issues. I'll add that today as a screenshot to avoid this issue. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for replying, since it's XML I know it will cause conflicts. Otherwise this looks like an excellent mod that expands on a more obscure part of the game

@nedstarkxy This is all XML based for the time being; I haven't felt as though the changes in the game that would be made with adding scripts are necessary to communicate the ideas I've put together for now.
