Perseus-Class Fast Attack Craft

Description
PERSEUS-CLASS FAST ATTACK CRAFT
"This domestically built variant of the La Combattante II, created from the study of two captured Bungeling Sea Snake missile boats during the Olsen Bay incident is testament to the incredible ability of the engineers and naval architects at the shipyards on Meier Island at reverse engineering, as even though the Perseus-class used by the Sawyer Islands Defence Forces appears almost identical to the original Sea Snake, the changes they've made make it arguably superior to the Bungeling version in almost every possible way."

-- Benjamin Tate, Senior Defence Analyst, CSIS.

Ship Cost: $310,000
Mass: 38,000

DESCRIPTION
The Perseus-class fast attack craft is an exceptionally versatile patrol combatant that is more than capable of punching well above it's weight. Armed with four powerful anti-ship missiles, a 76mm autocannon and even a dual .50 calibre heavy machinegun, the Perseus represents a potent threat even to the largest of enemy warships, more so as it's relatively fast speed, low profile and ability to manoeuvre in and out of estuaries and littoral environments mean that they can quite often strike with little to no warning.

Due to it's relatively low cost and ability to perform in a wide variety of roles, the Perseus serves as one of the main patrol craft in use within the Sawyer Islands Maritime Defence Force. Indeed it is quite common to see one of these craft not only deployed to deter any Bungeling Raiders, but their high speed and ability to operate a RHIB also means they tend to be involved in coastal patrol activities to protect local fisheries, oil & gas facilities and even intercept potential smugglers of narcotics and other illegal contraband.

As well as the 6 original Block I variants of the Perseus that were built recently there are another 8 on order at the FJ Warner shipyards, including 4 that are planned to be upgraded to Block II status with the newer Oto Melara 76/62 Super Rapid autocannon, 20mm Vulcan CIWS, waterjet propulsion and full colour visual displays.

FEATURES
  • An almost 1:1 scale remake of a very simplified and modified La Combattante II Fast Attack Craft, it's slightly shorter (only by 2 metres) than it's real life counterpart and I've removed a lot of the unnecessary features of the original, such as needing four engines, dedicated spaces for radio and computer equipment 'etc' and replaced them with more Stormworks-friendly alternatives, i.e. Microcontrollers.
  • No deprecated components, meaning that this is 100% career mode friendly!
  • 1 x Radar assisted 76mm Oto Melara Compact (Heavy Autocannon) with 80 rounds ready to fire and a further 160 rounds stored in the ship's forward magazine.
  • 1 x Radar assisted dual .50 Cal HMG turret with 100 rounds ready to fire and a further 1000 rounds stored in the ship's aft magazine.
  • All direct fire weapons have autoloaders and will rearm themselves when out of ammo.
  • 4 x GPS/Radar guided missiles that can lock onto targets designated by the fire control optics or given a pre-set target via waypoint.
  • 2 x MK 34 Rapid-bloom Off-board Chaff (RBOC) launchers with 6 rounds each (12 in total).
  • Touchscreen radar and sonar a maximum radar range of 5km (this can be adjusted in both the radar and microcontroller if you've got a relatively powerful computer and want to spot enemies from further away).
  • Waypoint navigation system and autopilot that displays the distance to the next waypoint.
  • A top speed of 40+ knots with the engines rigged for emergency speed, a much more sustainable cruising speed of around 20-30 knots with excellent fuel efficiency at around 40-50% throttle.
  • A highly detailed interior based on plans, videos and photographs of real La Combattante II, Type 148 'Tiger' and Sina Fast Attack Craft, although several rooms have been swapped, changed and even replaced to make it more compatible with Stormworks.
  • A small arms cabinet (locked with the code 826) containing rifles, pistols, grenades, ammunition and even a C4 charge and detonator.
  • A dedicated medical room and plenty of survival equipment including welding tools, first aid kits and diving gear.
  • Created to be played with a crew of 1-3 players but can very easily be used in single player thanks to the radar assisted main weapons and user friendly controls. Just remember that this vessel is meant to be navigated from the bridge/pilot house but any fighting should be done from the C.I.C where you can not only use the weapons but still steer the ship from the weapons console.
  • A ship's service diesel generator SSDG, that provides ship-wide power with very little fuel usage even when the vessel is stationary and the main engines are off.
  • Automatic bilge pumps.
  • Active stabilisation in the form of rudders/fins, weights and ballast, ensuring that it's extremely difficult to capsize even in roughest of seas.
  • An automatic righting mechanism that kicks in after 30 seconds of the vessel being upside down and a manual push-button, for use during the very rare occasions when the vessel does capsize.
  • A fully functional davit and low-profile launch RHIB that can be controlled by remote control (Channel 1).
  • Bow Thrusters to assist in docking.
  • A functioning anchor system. The anchor itself can be found stored away in the Bosun's storage locker and returned when no longer needed.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • I've added hardpoints to lock the turrets in place while not in use, but heavy damage combined with a sinking ship can still occasionally make them flip out and constantly hit against the main body of the vessel, which is not only annoyingly loud but will slow the game down considerably due to the physics glitching out.
  • This creation uses missiles from the steam workshop that make use of xml edited boosters to give them additional range, unfortunately this means that whenever the Perseus is removed from the workbench in a career or career classic game you will magically get a large amount of free solid propellant back in return.

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to the torpedo equiped one. I just lost one to a sub lately. ;-)

@Richman - It sounds like you're one of the lucky ones. I got messaged at work by two of my testers today, one claimed that all the front MC's suddenly didn't have any of their nodes connected and the other reported that his game just straight up crashes to desktop whenever he tries to spawn the Perseus in via the workbench.

I'm going to assume that the original file somehow got corrupted during a recent save, so once I got home I straight up replaced the whole thing with an older version and just added all the new changes I made in order to bring it up to date again.

The good news is that several of us have just finished testing it out and everything seems to be working okay, so hopefully that's it fixed now.... Heh, famous last words! ;)

Thanks! Well it now looks as Eng2's reverse is also connected to Eng1's. On purpose?

@Richman - Thanks! If this manages to get past 5K subs then I'll probably release the other two both together.

Yeah, that's a weird bug - they should both be identical but the one I've got on my hard drive works perfectly but when I try to use the most recent version I uploaded to the workshop it's not just the reverse gears - none of the controls seem to work at all.

I've re-uploaded it again to see if that fixes it, but if there's any more issues then please let me know.

Very nice ship! Interest for the Mk.II version is definitely there!

Possible you forgot to connect the reverse gear on this workshop variant?

Yes please!

If there's enough interest I might even post slightly more refined versions of the Pegasus II on the steam workshop, I've got two that I keep for personal use (both of which are featured in the last screenshot) including one that's armed with two torpedoes making it capable of hunting submarines, plus another variant that swaps out the 4x large dual purpose missiles for 8 x medium sized ones based on the Falkner-Muir RGM-30's and has a re-loadable SAM launcher on the stern instead of the 20mm CIWS.

It was actually quite a fun experience seeing itself fly at 140kph, thanks for the fix!
Captain Robertson  [author] 14 Feb @ 1:20am
@j - Good news! The Stormworks Devs at Geometa have reverted the propeller changes they introduced in v1.13.5 - probably due to the sheer amount of community backlash - so the Perseus and many other workshop creations now work as normal again.

I had released a hotfixed version about half an hour ago, but thankfully I kept a copy of the original just in case something like this happened. ;)

Enjoy!

You should try this boat again with Emergency Speed, the new update has it flying
