I'm going to assume that the original file somehow got corrupted during a recent save, so once I got home I straight up replaced the whole thing with an older version and just added all the new changes I made in order to bring it up to date again.
The good news is that several of us have just finished testing it out and everything seems to be working okay, so hopefully that's it fixed now.... Heh, famous last words! ;)
Yeah, that's a weird bug - they should both be identical but the one I've got on my hard drive works perfectly but when I try to use the most recent version I uploaded to the workshop it's not just the reverse gears - none of the controls seem to work at all.
I've re-uploaded it again to see if that fixes it, but if there's any more issues then please let me know.
Possible you forgot to connect the reverse gear on this workshop variant?
I had released a hotfixed version about half an hour ago, but thankfully I kept a copy of the original just in case something like this happened. ;)
Enjoy!
If you're having trouble understanding what is being said in the video there is also an option to turn on subtitles in your language.
Just watch out for those Bungeling attack submarines as this version of the Perseus doesn't have any torpedoes! ;)
Therefore I strongly suspect that most of your problems are on your side.
You're obviously still quite young, so I suggest that you get one of your parents - or if you've got one - an older brother, sister or even a friend from School to help you with this game if you're having problems getting things to work.
Try unsubbing and resubbing again to see if that fixes it, as in some cases files get corrupted during download in steam, although when that happens they usually don't work at all.
Likewise if this is a local copy of the Perseus that you've edited for personal use, then it won't work if you just switch the MC's around, as I've redesigned the whole Fire Control setup in the original to make it compatible with Pennies newest version. Your own copy won't be updated with any of that, unfortunately.
I just tested out the rear turret and it works okay, you just have to remember that when you're using the fire control radar it won't fire at anything over 800m with light autocannons.
Another tip is that it's also best not to use the target lock if you're trying to shoot at something directly behind you, just select the fire control radar and to aim slightly higher than normal, the reason why is because it loves to lock onto the missiles and RHIB on the deck instead of the target.
I'm not sure if that's because the new radars won't let 8PenniesDeep add a minimum range exclusion or something similar, but the only other alternative would probably be to add a second optics turret on the deck house.
I've been experimenting with the different ones available on the workshop and his is still by far the best one available. Just don't tell him I said that. :P
I've tried to make it as performance friendly as possible whilst still remaining fairly detailed and easy to use.
Incidentally the lore is that those enemy versions of the Perseus are the Bungeling 'Sea Snake' class missile boats that are mentioned in the beginning of the description above. Those are the ships that the Perseus was reverse engineered from after a couple of them were captured by the good guys.
In reality though it's the old "work in progress" base hull that I eventually turned into one of the two AI controlled versions of it because it was already partly hollowed out. ;)
So here's a quick post to say a huge thank you to everyone for all the amazing support, more so since I'm a merely a hobbyist and not a full time content creator, artist or coder like a lot of the others who post their top creations here on the steam workshop.
As a special bonus treat for everyone I've also release a highly optimised version of the Perseus that can be used as a wandering AI vehicle, providing you have the default vehicle AI enabled.
Feel free to grab it via my workshop page.
Enjoy!!
1. It's in the description above.
2. It's mentioned in the showcase video.
If that doesn't help then you can always ask your parents or an older brother/sister for help.
