Call of Cthulhu - Cosmic Horrors Unofficial 1.5 and 1.6 Update

Original mod by Jecrell, ported and updated to RimWorld 1.5 and 1.6 by anobis.

As with Mlie's unofficially updated/ported mods, I do not claim ownership of this mod. Jecrell, is free to use this mod to update their own or request its removal. I also will not accept donations for this mod since I'm not the author.

Changes from original:
Added support for 1.5
Added support for 1.6
1.6 version uses my jecstools port now instead.
Fixed pawn rendering for 1.5.

.4.0.1 (11-12-2022)

*Add Lovecraftian monsters to your RimWorld experience!* There is a lingering fear that strokes the hairs on the back of the necks of your colonists. Something terrible is coming, and there is little time to prepare. Cosmic horrors are already upon us.

Features:
This is an attempt to create the minor races of H.P. Lovecraft's weird fiction mythos in the RimWorld engine. Some behave the same as hostile factions that raid colonies such as mechanoids or insectoids. Others can be deadlier, however.

Adds the following cosmic horrors to your game:
  • Star-Spawn of Cthulhu
  • Shoggoths
  • Mi-Go
  • Deep Ones
  • Star Vampire
  • Dark Young
  • Chthonian

You will need to start a new game OR for previously saved games without monsters, you can try using Orion's Faction Discovery Mod
*phew* Now that that's out of the way. Onto the notes section!


Notes:
  • Each monster has its own unique anatomical skeletons, organs, and body parts. Some special powers were given to psionic beasts.
  • Each monster has special sound effects.
  • More creatures will be added in a second update in the near future. A third update will flesh out these cosmic horrors with true special abilities true to their literary counterparts.
  • Since I am one person, I can't attest to how balanced the monsters are, and I am definitely looking for feedback from player experiences. Let me know how they are in your game.

Third Update
  • Dark Young and Dark Young Herd incidents added to the game.
  • Greater Deep Ones added to the game.
  • Star Vampires rebalanced to be more numerous at higher difficulties.
  • All cosmic horrors have age ranges from Spawn to Eldritch.
  • Sanity loss effects now apply when observing Cosmic Horrors.
  • Mood loss effects now apply when observing Cosmic Horrors.
  • Sanity Loss effects further rebalanced

im guessing any chance of cults being updated has gotten screwed by the new dlc?

Awesome, thanks ano0bis. Don't work too hard on fixing things up just yet. With 1.6 coming out, it's liable to break all the mods again anyway. So maybe wait till it drops? Either way, I am excited to see there is still life and hope for this mod. The official DLC adds some interesting things, but it just lacks the ambiance of CoC.
I mean honestly, getting a random message that some poor crow died unnoticed is just enough unsettling to let you know things arn't right in the world.

working on bugfix update for this rn, update is out rn in xml version.

This and the vamp mod need large bugfix updates to be fully functional, I'm adding a warning to both until these bugfixes are done. I might also be forced to make a replacement mod for jecstools but I'm saving that for later if I can.

same as thomas said. Story teller doesnt show up to choose, none of the random events fire. I so see patching taking place for it in the log, but nothing shows up in game.

Definitely would be much easier if there was some substitute of the dessicated body skeleton instead of nothing. Having something invisible and trying to find it isn't exactly a fun thing to do. Plus, if this was outside, the weather and outdoors effects would've destroyed the skeleton anyway but never did for me.

Adding to what L said, perhaps we could get an update to give deep ones just normal human skeletons for the sake of mod compatibility?
