OWB - The Think Tank

Description
A massive overhaul to The Think Tank.

Turning The Think Tank from almost certain death to a very longshot major contender in the wasteland.

You won't be beating the NCR or Caesar's Legion any time soon, but there are other fights to win while you gather the strength to challenge the giants.

Balanced for a challenging experience. You are a radroach that with the right play and the right luck can become a deathclaw.

Features
  • 114 new focuses.
  • 49 new ideas.
  • 32 new events.
  • 38 new decisions.
  • a new technology with a custom robotic division type and custom robot equipment.
  • a new animated portrait.
  • balance changes to all existing focuses.

How to play

1. Start the game as the Mojave Chapter.
2. Survive until starting The Dome focus. This will spawn The Think Tank and allow you to switch to them.
3. Before completing the focus I recommend you delete your units as you won't spawn with enough units to beat the army you've built to survive.
4. You will be very vulnerable, this will be hard, but it is possible. Good luck.

How to win
This is the path I found works best. I think it's more fun if you figure out your own path. But if you don't want to, here's a guide.

1. Don't conquer New Vegas before switching to The Think Tank
2. Complete Resource Consolidation. This will gradually move resources to your capital so they can be more efficiently extracted and you won't loose them later when giving away territory.
3. Go down the path of allying New Vegas.
4. Give territory to the NCR for peace. If you give territory to Caesar's Legion this will avoid the NCR Legion war as the Legion will already have Hoover dam, you want this war to weaken them.
5. Best chance to complete Convergance in an AI game is to rush it early and hope you can get it through before being attacked (you will likely need to give territory to the NCR to have enough time). In multiplayer you will need to play politics to ensure your safety during this period.
6. Both Convergance paths have massive buffs, even if you are min-maxing both paths should be viable, the decision of which to pick depends on who your main enemy will be.
7. As soon as you choose a path with Convergance you will start a repeating mission that will gradually debuff you, this will become crippling but will start low so you have some time before needing to rush to Serenity.
8. The next move should be to complete all focuses up to Advanced Robotics, completing this path will give you a significant buff to robot attack, and a much larger debuf to energy cell usage you should be able to afford. It will also start a repeating mission giving you an increasing amount of robot attack over time. If you can survive long enough your robots should be better than any division of the NCR or Caesar's Legion.
9. Robotic Supremacy gives you an immediate +5% to ingenuity, if you wait until the mission reaches the maximum of +25% before completing this, you can get to +30%. If you need it earlier however you can complete it earlier but will not be able to reach +30%.
10. The NCR will build a large airforce, put AA in your divisions.
11. If you choose the True Convergance path, it may be worth completing Defensive Coordination before Clean Slate Protocol so its easier to defend fronts while you focus down single countries.
12. If you follow the area 51 focuses under Exotic Expeditions you can obtain a custom robot technology that gives you a custom robot type that functions like a heavy tank or tank destroyer. By this point in the game your mainline troops may be combat robots, if these are your infantry these new robots are your tanks.

Compatability

This mod should be compatible with all OWB submods that don't edit The Think Tank (TNK) or the Lunar Legion (LUL).

Errors

Since this submod focuses on late-game content unfortunately there is a higher likelihood you will encounter crashes. This likely isn't due to this submod, it's likely due to the main mod (which outputs 100s of errors). If you crash go post a complaint to them and maybe they will fix it.

I don't see why not. I just posted an update that helps a little, if you experience an issue please let me know.

> Any chance in the future we can get custom general robot potraits?

These where actually in the mod previously but I removed them when cleaning up and making the mod smaller and more manageable. I expect I will re-add these at some point.

Yeah so there are some edits to the New Vegas focus tree to better support some stuff which will break compatability. I can look into this in the next update.

I didn't use AI to generate any of the images in this mod.

For some reason this disables New Vegas's focus tree from Courier Six Redux.

@TheCraftNCreator Previously I've been trying to avoid modifying the base mod focuses too much. I do see your point, I've tried to avoid this obfuscation in my newly added focuses. I can think about updating some of the base mod focuses to fix this.

I guess this will become more important as I plan to make the mod harder with the next update.
