Introduction
I created this mod as I was not happy with the ugly dark olive color of vanilla ceramics. I wanted to have more variety of colors and properties of ceramics but keep some degree of reality.
I also wanted to have more types of bricks (red bricks should be available) and terracotta statues.
This mod adds a wide range of new ceramic and brick materials with varied colors and properties, including small adjustments to vanilla ceramics (names, colors, material heat and mechanical properties).

Detailed Content

Ceramic Materials
Here are the added ceramic materials, with their corresponding clays and how to make them:
  • Yellowware Ceramic - A warm yellow-colored ceramic. Lead-glazed earthenware with a dense, non-porous finish. Inspired by yellowware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Yellowware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay and lead.
  • Terracotta Ceramic - Rust-colored unglazed earthenware, strong and slightly porous, often used for tiles. Inspired by terracotta[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Terracotta Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay.
  • Redware Ceramic - A deep scarlet-colored ceramic, commonly used for cheaper earthenware products. Inspired by redware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Redware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay.
  • Enorware Ceramic - A vibrant azure-colored, tin-glazed earthenware often adorned with cobalt oxide. Inspired by Delftware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Enorware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay, tin, and cobalt/cobaltite.
  • Whiteware Ceramic - A smooth blue-gray ceramic that's high-quality, non-porous, and durable. Inspired by Shino ware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Whiteware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay, sand, and calcium carbonate (eg calcite).
  • Creamware Ceramic - A beige-colored salt-glazed stoneware, slightly porous but durable. Inspired by creamware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Creamware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay, (rock) salt, and lead.
  • Pearlware Ceramic - An ivory-colored porcelain-like ceramic with a fine quality finish. Inspired by pearlware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Pearlware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay, (rock) salt, lead, and cobalt/cobaltite.
  • Blackware Ceramic - A sleek black-colored polished ceramic, often used for decorative pieces. Inspired by Nizamabad Black Pottery[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Blackware Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay and plant oil.
  • Marlware Ceramic - A saffron-colored ceramic with a good quality finish - better quality version of standard earthenware. Ancient Egyptian pottery made of - Marl clay[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Desert Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay and calcium carbonate (eg calcite).
  • Ironware Ceramic - A burnt sienna-colored, iron-rich ceramic. Inspired by iron-enriched ceramics used historically for durability. Made from Ironware Clay. Creating ironware clay requires (earthenware) clay, sand, iron and calcium carbonate.
  • Graphiteware Ceramic - A gray-colored, graphite-infused ceramic with excellent heat resistance. Inspired by black burnished ware[en.wikipedia.org] and Celtic graphite pottery[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Graphite Clay. Requires (earthenware) clay and graphite.
  • Greenware Ceramic - An olive-colored ceramic with jade-like properties. Inspired by greenware[en.wikipedia.org]. Made from Greenware Clay. Creating greenware clay requires (earthenware) clay, iron and copper.
  • Blemish Ceramic - A fern green-colored ceramic, of lower quality with high porosity and poor mechanical properties. Used for simple construction materials. Inspired by rougher, low-grade earthenware. Made from Contaminated Clay or Paper Clay. Paper clay requires (earthenware) clay and plant fiber (1 clay boulder -> 2 paper clay boulders). Contaminated clay is a side product of other clay preparation reactions.

Other new Reactions
In addition to the new ceramics, this mod introduces two key reactions:
  • Produce Clay: This reaction allows the production of various clays from raw materials like claystone, sand, ash and milk of lime. It can produce clay or contaminated clay.
  • Purify Clay: This reaction helps purify clay (in theory any fired-mat boulder, in practice the contaminated clay was in mind) using milk of lime, producing higher-quality clay (clay or fireclay) and sometimes additional byproducts such as kaolinite or sand.

Design decisions
I decided to create clay per ceramic type (instead of just reactions requiring additional ingredients and a clay) - with that, the mod is quite transparent for other mods allowing to produce new things from clay.
You can think of the new specific clays as well-prepared ingredients for kiln reactions instead of just clay boulders.
I created the mod to be open to the existence of metal powders, calcium carbonate, cobalt etc. The Steam mod setup has info about those mods, but you can play without them - just some reactions will never be enabled or not work correctly.
Here is a list of mods that this mod takes into account:
I also decided that for most clay production reactions, the chemistry skill will be used. I think it better reflects the more complex knowledge required to create some of the rarer ceramics.

Other

Issues
  • Missing related mods will make cobalt-required actions available and just not require cobalt.

Compatibility
I designed it to be compatible with Useful kiln mod but likely other pottery mods will work as well.
The purifying clay reaction also creates a nice synergy with Sand & Clay Anywhere .

I also can't figure out how to make graphiteware. I have graphite boulders, but it says it needs a bar or powder, but I can't make a bar or powder in any workshop. I did a content search in all my installed mods, including all the mods suggested on this page, which I also installed, but the word graphite only appears in this mod's reaction files and none other, and it only contains the two options to make the clay from bar or powder.

It doesn't seem like the purify clay reaction is working at all. The dwarf brings 3 boulders of silty clay, a bucket of milk of lime and an empty bag and then nothing is produced, used or altered.

I figured out that I can make the output stockpile accept ALL stones and it seems to be working. Also I noticed that all of the new pottery types are present when specifying the type for a furniture stockpile, it's just the clay types missing from 'other stones'.

I'm having the same problem as gisaku33 and can't figure out a workaround using stockpiles. I'm trying to set up:
Stockpile1 -> kiln1 -> stockpile2 -> kiln2
Stockpile1 and stockpile2 both have stone -> clay -> clay enabled and nothing else.
Stockpile1 takes from anywhere and is full of vanilla clay.
Kiln1 takes from stockpile1 and gives to stockpile2.
Stockpile2 only takes from specific places.

Nothing ever makes it to stockpile2, the potter just stands there turning clay back and forth between terracotta and redware. I think some stockpile options might be missing, I see bone clay and bone ceramic but nothing else.

Unfortunately, there are game engine restrictions. I wanted to make it possible to use any clay to prepare other clays, and there is no 'forbid x' option. You can manage that issue by restricting input and output stockpiles for the workshop

Unfortunately, the game engine does not recognize them as clay - look under the stone.

I can't find terracotta clay anywhere in the stockpile menu, and the preparation recipe for it seems to also take already prepared terracotta clay instead of just regular clay so the dwarves will craft it in circles.

@MafiaNation
I reviewed the Ceramics Expanded and it is 95% compatible. You will be not able to make a bone porcelain clay from clays in my mod and vice versa but all rest (including glazes and additional items crafting) looks fine. So give both mods at once a try ;-)
If you will encounter major issue give me a shout maybe something can be done on my side to address it.

@niemst
im guessing this is not compatible with ceramics expanded? or does it change too much?

@Nilserrich
Yo make blackware clay you need:
any earthware clay (like one u could dig from ground) - it my be show by game as a stone
a 1/3 of ash bar
oil in container

That said I think I did had an issue here. now should be fixed

@MafiaNation
thx, fixed

The compatibility section that states the synergies between 'sand and clay anywhere', is no longer available or the link is not working. May take it out or find a replacement!
