Description
Experience the fun of blowing up a nuclear power plant and messing around with the machinery!

I was once searching workshop for a map where you can mess around in a nuclear power plant and also interact with the machinery. To my disappointment, I found none. But I decided to make it myself, and this is the final product.

This map is focused on the reactor mechanic. You have a reactor control room with buttons to control the reactor, if you want that is. You don't need to go touch the reactor control panel, BUT if you want to, do be aware of the possible consequences! Touching buttons will possibly affect other gauges on the panel too, so be careful of not causing a reactor explosion!

Yes! You can explode the reactor!

Besides that, the map has some other funny things, such as a camera system, two working cranes, and other funny things I have added! I have focused on adding silly things into this map. Also the map is based on a post-communist power plant much like Chernobyl because I was absolutely obsessed with Chernobyl when I started making this map lol.

How to operate the reactor

To operate the reactor, locate the control room and use the following buttons. Here is what they do:

Coolant Injection:

The coolant injection button will inject some supercooled CO2 into the reactor core
decreasing the core temperature. It can be used in emergencies where you want to
decrease core temperature rapidly. That's about it.

1st Arrow Buttons:

These buttons control the water intake to the reactor. Pressing up will cause more water
to enter the reactor which will cool it more, but also decrease power output. Pressing down
will decrease the water intake, but cause temperatures to rise and causes a small increase
in power output.

2nd Arrow Buttons:

These buttons control the control rod positions. Pressing up will raise the control rods one
step up, and thus, increasing power output. The side effect is that temperature will rise.
Pressing down will lower control rods one step and will decrease power output and
temperature slightly.

Emergency Shutdown:

This button is only to be used in emergencies and as soon as possible when a pressure or
temperature alarm is on. Any delay might make the button cause more harm than good.
Use it properly, or face the consequences!

Also I have linked a video with a more in-depth look into the control room, and it's features.

Now for the real question: how to make the reactor explode?

There are two ways to go about this. First is pressing the 1st arrow keys
down a couple of times and pressing the 2nd arrow keys up a couple of times.
The second way is by going to the hall where the green glowing tanks are, and
locating a valve. Either press E on it or shoot it/hit it to make it turn. That valve can
possibly cause a meltdown without any interaction from the control room. Have fun! :3

If you find any issues or want me to make changes to this map, DO COMMENT!

Special thanks to...

Marcel for making the two whiteboards, his portrait is actually visible in the building!
Also he helped me make the thumbnail a bit better :333

Cioss21 for helping me with interior world building and giving me tips, you should check out his
work, he goes by Cioss on Steam!

Andreweathan for some opinions and stuff :3

ALSO many of the models used in this map were from the game Black Mesa by Crowbar
Collective, thank you for making that great game btw :333

ALL COMMENTERS! So far I have caught many major issues and I have fixed most of them as of
writing this. Thank you!

Changes that have so far been implemented due to reports:

File size reduction. The file size was reduced by a hundred megabytes!
Although I might reduce it even more later

Cubemaps being added after figuring out why my cubemaps weren't working.

Performance improvements added, runs decently with 100-200~ish mods, but frame rates tend
to decrease with a lot of mods. Performance will be fixed relatively often above all additions.

Added a navmesh.

no steal plz :<

The alarms/lights seem a bit janky, is that intentional?

@Serial Designation N I might just complete the second version at some point, but as of now I don't have much time or motivation. I'll maybe make it somewhere later this year.

Best NPP map on gmod :3 And I have suggestion that when you will be making gm_reactor_v2 you can make like 2 reactors in one facility

@2008toyotacorolla yeah um I’m making a new map that’s not really the second version of gm_reactor, but it’s like properly made instead of this mess. I MIGHT make gm_reactor_v2 eventually if I have enough motivation as I have started making it already.

soild 8/10 map again as mentioned the optimaztion is not great but its a very complicated map and as an aspiring mapper i understand 100% goat map :steamhappy: :3

@zsmallsz_ yeah I spent a long time trying to optimize this dumpster fire of a map because when I started making it, I was so stupid and did stupid level design choices which makes this map unsalvageable, so that's why I'm making a better version

map runs at a solid 2 fps
