Distant Worlds 2 Refreshed (DW2R) Mod Collection
21 items
Description
***Works with Atuuk/Wekkarus DLC***

The Refreshed Sounds mod replaces many of the vanilla sound effects with new files to give a refreshed feeling to your favorite 4X game.

Shout-out to Era and the Cyno Studios crew for permission to grab some of the weapon sound assets they recorded for their Eve Online total conversion "Sins of New Eden: Rebirth" for the game Sins of a Solar Empire.

/========== CHANGE LOG ==========\
  • v1.0.1 -- 15 November 2024 -- Lowered volume on UI sounds
  • v1.0.0 -- 14 November 2024 -- Initial Release

/========== COMPATIBILITY ==========\
Everything I know of. The mod only replaces vanilla sound assets. No .xml files edited.

XL users: No conflicts. Just load XL last.

/========== OWNERSHIP / COPYRIGHT ==========\
Unlike my other mods, I did not create any of these sound effects. They were procured from several games and/or other modding projects. I am not the author and do not own the copyright to these sound effects. Below is a list of where the sound effects came from:
  • Starsector by Fractal Softworks (sounds from base game. some hyperdrive, UI and weapon sounds)
  • Stardrive 1 by Zero Sum Games (some hyperdrive sounds)
  • Star Trek: TNG by Paramount Global (some UI alert and messaging sounds)
  • Sins of New Eden: Rebirth mod by Cyno Studios (some weapon sounds)

/========== CONTENTS ==========\
The original sounds for in DW2 are fine. But after a few playthroughs, sometimes you want something more, something different, something fresh.

This mod is purely auditory and seeks to just add a dash of something new to your DW2 experience.

I do wish I could add some comparisons of vanilla and modded sounds...but at present there is not an easy way to extract the vanilla assets. I can replace them, but can't extract the original sounds into a listenable state. Sorry, gang!

Hey i was hoping to replace the new wekkurans race blaster cannon noise with a different one, as your the only one who has modded sounds in this game whats the best way to do that? is it ok to message you or are you gonna do a DLC update too?

@Funeral Mask -- it's complicated from an "add them to the game" perspective, but not modding the sounds themselves.

To swap out a sound, you pretty much just need a .wav of the sound you want and name it the same as the sound you're wanting to replace.

However, everything else is pretty complicated. Gotta install Stride Game Engine, use bundle tools to package files into the right format, etc.

Is it complicated to mod sounds or doable?
salemonz  [author] 2 Feb @ 8:51pm
@Demiurge -- just a sampling (I did about 80, I think). I'll see about putting them on a Gitlab project or something.
Demiurge 15 Jan @ 6:08pm
Are these all the sounds you changed or just a sampling? If it's just a sampling, is there a way to listen to all the ones changed?

@oJy -- yes, should be. Removing the mod will just restore the vanilla sounds.

The gun sounds are better, mutch better, but the warp drives sound weak. Are these safe to remove on save file?
