Description
You take the role of Captain Morris of the USS Pharris as tensions spike—Pharris' sonar picks up an ominous contact in the deep...

Soviet submarines have been targeting allied escorts in an attempt to make trans-atlantic shipping so dangerous that the Atlantic is closed off to the allies.

This mission is based on an encounter described in chapter 23 'Returns' of Tom Clancy's 'Red Storm Rising'.

This is the encounter in which Pharris destroys the enemy sub and the crew are rescued and taken aboard. Pharris' later encounter with a Russian Victor will be coming soon...

That's an AI issue, unfortunately there isn't a way to control the AIs behaviour beyond initial starting EMCON state.

In testing he fired torps every time but because the player can behave in various ways the AI won't always respond the same way.

Hopefully they add tools similar to those found in Arms where you can control the AI more precisely in mission design.

I picked the Ivan up within 6nm of the convoy making 20 knots. Is this by design or a AI issue? He never shot a torp.

@Peter I have changed the scenario now to reflect that the other escorts are too far to directly assist but they still provide their helo support.

I believe I made the mistake of thinking that USS Reuben James was with the convoy at the time but I think you are correct, it isn't until later in the book that the Reuben James is moved into the Atlantic and Morris takes command of her.

Fun mission. Are the other escorts' names randomized or picked? I played it twice and both times the OHP was the Reuben James. IIRC she should still be in the Pacific or at best ztransiting the Panama Canal at this time. Or am I incorrect?

The mission has been updated to better reflect the scenario presented in the book, but it is now more difficult as a result, good luck Captains!

I'll take another look at the chapter and see about adjusting the positions too, really appreciate the constructive feedback. I want these missions to be as best as possible

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll look into why the victory isn't triggering (I'd did for me in testing)

And I'll look at improving performance too.

I never got any mission won messages after killing the sub,

fun mission otherwise

I guess the chapter is a bit vague. it reads that the escorts pooled their helicopters together to hunt the sub. It doesn't say how many escorts there are and where they are located. When Pharris gets her orders earlier in the book they say she will be outside sonar picket north of the convoy. I figure that to mean she is on her own well to the north (about 20 - 30nm).

I think it would make more sense if you had her out on her own and have other the other escorts spread out around the convoy, too far away to help immediately but within helo range.

Also to help with lag I think it would be better to have no convoy at all but instead have an objective circle for the enemy sub so that if it enters that area you can assume that the sub is withing range for an attack on the convoy. That way you don't have to have the convoy in the mission at all.
