Tape Re-Release

Description
Tape Re-Release
In the music industry, a reissue (also re-release, repackage or re-edition) is the release of an album or single which has been released at least once before, sometimes with alterations or additions.

For all lovers of pre-evolution, whether it be a simple little Traffikrab or the incredible Kuneko, this mod is just what's right! The concept of re-releasing a tape is an optional setting alongside remastering, making the re-released monster more powerful, while also keeping its form!

This mod is intended to allow players to keep their un-remastered monsters, while also allowing them to rival other remastered ones. Re-releasing is done the same way as remastering a tape; it will be given as a choice in the menu. Once re-released, the tape cannot be remastered or re-released anymore. It is a permanent choice. Only tapes that can be remastered into something else can be re-released!

When a tape is re-released, its stats will be modified, and it will gain move slots, to compensate its lack of AP and potentially better moves when evolved. Those modified stats were made in mind to increase the total stats to 800, and to have a slightly different focus than their existing evolutions. For example, Candevil becomes a Melee Attacker, while Bansheep becomes a Ranged Attacker.

Known Issues
- Minor incompatibility with Living World. Seems to prevent a specific file from loading- the one that checks whether the re-released forms are re-released or not. This causes the remastering menu to pop up every time, even if you have no tapes that can either be remastered or re-released.

Please report any issues you encounter in game!

FAQ

Can I add it to an existing save?
Yes!

Can I remove it?
Yes! This mod does not change anything about the code. Re-released monsters will simply be treated as if nothing had happened to them. Keep in mind that removing the mod and saving your file means that if you add it again later, all monsters will be treated as not re-released.

This tape won't be re-released!
The criteria for re-releasing is that the tape must be capable of remastering into something else, and it is at its maximum grade of 5. This means that something that can't evolve (like Averevoir) or is already fully evolved (like Jormungold) cannot be re-released.

Where can I see the stats?
Right on here.[docs.google.com]

What happens if I disable the custom stats?
The monster will be raised to 800 base stats in steps. Each step will spread 5 in each stat, increasing the total by 30. If less than 30 is left to be spread around, then everything else will be dumped in health. This results in monsters having a fairly neutral way of having their stats. For example, Candevil goes from 115/110/100/110/105/100 to 150/135/125/135/130/125.

Can this cause issues with custom monsters?
If the monster was made without causing a direct incompatibility with the scripting (as seen below), then yes. Any monster that isn't regarded in the list will simply use the default stat generation setting seen above. Feel free to contact me to propose a stat spread for me to add them in.

Is it compatible with X?
Most mods that don't interact directly with monsters and tapes will be compatible. This mod uses cat's Mod Utils, though, and any other mod can easily overtake it.

Does it work for multiplayer?
The mod hasn't been tested in multiplayer, nor was it particularly intended for it. Feel free to post any results about how the mod works in multiplayer.

Settings

Values of 0% to 4%

Affects the stat growth per grade of a tape. This defaults at 2% in vanilla, but is set to 0% in this mod, as stat variance can already increase beyond the scope of the original. Not recommended to be increased.

Values of 0 to 3

When a tape is re-released, it will naturally gain this amount of sticker slots.

Values of True or False

When a tape is re-released, it will gain one sticker slot, for each missing Max AP underneath 10. A monster like Candevil, with 5 AP, would gain five additional sticker slots.

Values of True or False

If enabled, allow using the stats from the list mentioned above. If at false, every monster, regardless if they are in the list or not, will have simple generated stats. The generation is done by adding 5 to every stats, until reaching 25 or less stats left to give before reaching 800; at which point, everything else is put in Max HP.

That's strange, that shouldn't happen. Once a monster hits max grade, they'll keep gaining EXP like any regular monster. Re-release doesn't affect that.

If this occurs, try removing every mod except mine, and see if the situation still occur.

And yes, me too! Monster catchers gotta realize pre-evos need attention and love too.
Sorry to repost, accidentally deleted my comment trying to edit it… However I wanted to say, my beasts are not getting exp, however my character and partner still are. (Also for some reason the monster stat growth option is not in my settings.)

Is it because it might cause a glitch if the monsters “level up” with this mod?

Still an amazing mod! Thank you so much for doing this. Wish all monster catching games did this by default.

Ah, that is unfortunate, but understandable now.

I would have liked that as well, but unfortunately it's fairly complicated to change. Unlike stats, which are recalculated all the times (and as such is very easy to add on top), AP is set based on the monster's form itself. Forcing it to change would brick saves if they removed it, as I'd practically have to either make a bunch of unique monster forms, or rewrite the entire AP system, and either would cause a LOT of incompatibilities with other mods.

I decided on doing it that way to also give pre-evos some form of difference from their higher evos. Fully remastered tapes focus more on powerful moves, while pre-evos focus on stacking stats like crazy through rare stickers.

Love the mod, just wish I could set it to make re-releases have 10 AP instead of getting the bonus stickers thing.
