RF-14D Peeping Tom

The F-14 is perhaps the most instantly recognizable carrier borne aircraft in service, and while it has long served as the prime fleet defense interceptor, upgraded repeatedly over the decades, its time in the sun wanes as new low observable platforms come onto the scene. Now like so many carrier aircraft before it the Tomcat settles in to a twilight service of reconnaissance work and on occasion as a precision munition truck as the RF-14D. But this final rebuild is not without some perks, such as the latest F119 engines granting the ability the super-cruise. And if you ask nicely I'm sure they're more than willing to bolt those Phoenix pallets back on.

Another one of my "cold war continues into the 21st century" excuses to see what something would look like had it not been retired due to funding cuts. Probably not the rendition of the Super Tomcat most people were expecting, I hope this pleasantly subverts some expectations.


The Bombcat mod alters the same vessel variant files so it conflicts on the CVN68 and 69 loadouts. If there's interest I can tweak these files to include F-14B's.

Features:
Do you find the flares and chaff in the game to be...anemic? 4 pairs of bursts with a 15 second lock out between uses. Ugh. Well I fixed that. *slaps hand down on the AN/ALE-47* You can launch so many flares with this bad larry. 960 to be specific. Using an assortment (5) chaff modules strategically placed (in the litening and ALQ-119 pods) in order to give a proper "angel wing" flare bloom. The four pair launched has been upped to 96 pair (192 total) giving 5 uses of the 960 round system. The reset time is 1.5 seconds matching the discharge time allowing you to pickle off the entire load of flares in a continuous string if needed.

Recon package: The camera and surface radar purloined from the RA-5C, some litening pods the Air Force won't miss, and lot of superglue gives the Peeping Tom and excellent set of eyes. Even comes with a pair of targeting lasers. Less permanently attached are the ALQ-119 electronic warfare pods. Standard equipment in the Recon and SEAD roles.

PhARM: AGM-54CA Phoenix Anti-Radiation Missile. Being replaced by in the long range interceptor role by the newest AMRAAM and airborne SM-6, the aging inventory of Phoenix missiles has been given an overhaul into a high speed stand-off anti-radiation weapon.

Bright Phoenix: AIM-54CE Phoenix C, Extended Burn Motor. A very modest refurbishment/upgrade to the legacy inventory of C models, they received a replacement motor with an extended burn time but are otherwise the same as the standard C version.

Present Day Sidewinder: AIM-9X, extended burn time motor, thrust vectoring, all digital panoramic infrared sensor. Yeah. It's scary.

Extended Range: Glovebox pylons and a centerline station have been wet plumbed for fuel tanks. A pair of tanks swiped from the A-6's are fitted to the pylons, and the mongo tank from an F-15 are on the belly, as relevant to the various loadouts.

New Engines: A set of F-119's swiped from the F-22 program rounds out this recon bird with supercruise.
