Description
Hunt for Kirov
In the midst of the Cold War, tensions are running high between NATO and the USSR. The Soviets have mobilized their first-rank ships, including the cruiser Kirov and the Moskva, spotted crossing the English Channel before a storm allows them to evade Nato sensors.

Aboard the cruiser USS Long Beach, you must locate the Kirov and monitor her movements, without engaging unless ordered to do so. The storm is beginning to lessen in intensity, but the danger remains palpable. Every move must be precise to avoid a fatal escalation.

In these tense times, when war could break out at any moment, will you be the spark that ignites the fire? Or will your task group spearhead the first victory against the Warsaw Pact?

Blue force
You will be commanding the Intrepid task group made up of the USS Long Beach, the Spruance-class USS Merrill and the USS William V. Pratt of the Coontz class. You will have air support provided by France in the form of a P-3C and three fighter groups made up of Mirage F1C.

Intelligence
  • The Soviet force is made up of two major ships: the Kirov and the Moskva-class Lenigrad, escorted by frigates.
  • The Kirov group tried to conceal itself in civilian shipping. Beware of potential collateral damage if the situation turns into open conflict.

Mission objectives
  1. Locate Kirov and his group as quickly as possible
  2. Once you've located the enemy, maintain radar contact and don't lose it.
  3. The situation can change rapidly, so be ready to react to new orders.

Instructions
  • Do not use harpoon on the maritime patrol aircraft.
  • If there are any aircraft in the airport other than those already in flight at the start of the game, please do not use them during the game.

======
With the release of Long Beach, I wanted to test it in a scenario and pit it against Kirov. I hope you enjoy the battle between these two giants. Have fun!

And once again, all feedback is welcome!

Thanks @Jive Turkey

There is a lot of realism in this scenario.
I like the high number of shipping contacts.

I haven't figured out how to complete the objectives yet with the current load outs, but I"m working the problem.
Good job.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it! Especially since it's not the easiest scenario to get started in Sea Power, I think :)

As far as airborne resources are concerned, if I'm not mistaken, the fueltank is automatically jettisoned, so if the order is given ‘too early’ (for the game) the range before bingo becomes effectively too short. Normally fighters have the range for attacks from Ireland to Spain.

fun Scenario but by the time I got into missile range all my air assets were bingo fuel. also they are useless. great mission though. im new to the game and have tried about 10 times to complete it. what a great moment for a nuke.

Thanks @Ajlma!

On my tests it went through using all my missiles and throwing the tomahawks forward as a decoy. Flatbird used a more subtle method with a good emcon and fired after weakening the escort. I also suppose that taking the time to clean up the escort with fighters and leaving the Kirov for last with a light AA defence might work .

Thanks for the feedback anyway, and I'll think about it and see what other feedback I get.

Good scenario but with your force being severely underpowered compared to the Soviet fleet I couldn't finish it. I shot all 24 harpoons plus 4 Exocets at the Kirov and RNG had it that only 2 made it through and the Kirov managed to repair the damage. It was shocking how many missiles were intercepted like literally a split second from impact. Perhaps add another squadron of F1s at the airbase?

Thanks @knorke !

As for the speed, I strongly suspect that it's normal and due to the weather conditions.

I loved the scenario, but I'm wondering: while chasing the Kirov my ships are only going at 18 knots (max). Is this because of weather effects or a bug or something else?
