⚠️ Beta Status
This mod is currently in beta (v0.3). While functional, you may encounter some bugs and the features are still being refined. Your feedback and bug reports are extremely valuable during this development phase!
Overview
Cover Autonomy is a tactical enhancement mod that allows your colonists to automatically seek and utilize the best available cover positions within designated areas. No more micromanaging each pawn's position during firefights - let them intelligently choose optimal defensive positions while you focus on the bigger picture.
Key Features
[]Smart Cover Selection: Pawns automatically evaluate and choose the best cover positions based on enemy locations and cover effectiveness[]Weapon-Based Formations: Automatic positioning based on weapon type for optimal combat effectiveness[]Area-Based Control: Define specific zones where pawns should seek cover, giving you strategic control over defensive positions[]Dynamic Repositioning: Pawns will automatically adjust their positions as enemy formations move and change[]Multiple Area Management: Create and manage multiple cover zones with different assigned pawns[]Save/Load System: Save your favorite defensive setups and load them instantly when needed[]Visual Feedback: Clear visual indicators show assigned areas and cover positions[]Performance Optimized: Multithreaded calculations for smooth gameplay
Important Usage Notes
[]Recommended Usage: This mod works best with small to medium-sized defensive scenarios. For complex building layouts or large enemy forces, consider using a hybrid approach - let some pawns use the auto-cover system while manually controlling others for optimal results.[]Known Issues:Area Deletion Bug: Sometimes the Area Manager won't let you delete an area directly. Workaround: Remove all pawns from the area first, and it will delete itself automatically. The mod may struggle with very complex building layouts

How It Works
[]Select your pawns[]Use the "Drag Cover Region" tool to define an area[]Enable the cover system[]Watch as your pawns intelligently take positions, considering:Cover effectivenessLine of sightDistance to enemiesSpacing between pawnsWall-leaning opportunitiesWeapon type and optimal range

Compatibility
[]✓ Compatible with most mods[]✓ Recommended with Run and Gun - enhances tactical mobility!

Could this be tied to the Combat Command ability? Whenever a leader uses Combat Command, a zone for cover autonomy spawns in the range of Combat Command and clears up when the pawn undrafts or the ability ends.

Also want to report that player.log is reporting a bunch of things and was hoping maybe you can tone it down for performance improvements while maintaining the integrity of the mod?

Just a heads-up. Coming here from collecting a list of overly verbose mods for a troubleshooting guide and this mod came up in some logs. Seeing it's still in 'early-beta' the logging there might be intentional - in which case just ignore my comment. But just so you can keep in mind and not forget for later to either reduce the logging, or ideally make it opt-in to begin with as soon as the mod gets to a more stable state and that info might only be relevant for actual troubleshoots and not permanent.

RW's logger is in general not really performant - so while verbose logging at startup is mostly just annoying if you have to read the log later, having it running constantly ingame can add quite some overhead to the overall performance.

But as said - mostly just FYI - over and out :)

I've loved this mod. But I hope you can implement a system where you don't need to be drafted in order to see the cover spots anymore. But much appreciated for this awesome mod!
