Enhanced Clean UI Reskin (V2)

Description
At long last! After another 300hrs or so of late nights, swearing at Affinity Designer and getting my UX designer girlfriend addicted to Soviet Republic so I could get more expert feedback, V2 of my UI overhaul!

This mod aims to fix a whole bunch of things I'm not a huge fan of about the current UI. The main pain points I'm improving are:

Get rid of the Skeuomorphic paper UI look.

Make the resource icons more distinct and readable.

Add a decent amount of useful data on every building thumbnail regarding what it does, how much of it it does etc, which should hopefully make choosing the correct buildings a lot easier. No more having to hover over each building to see which size it is/how productive it is/how many vehicles it holds etc, or even to work out what sort of building it is!

Obviously I'm working within the limitations of only being able to replace images, not move or change anything. Also in some cases I can't change buttons as I'd like (e.g the "Add new line" button shares the same plus button as every other plus button in the game, so I can't do a custom icon for it) but I think even within those limitations it's a decent improvement.

Note I haven't updated any of the map editor or research related UI/icons yet either.

Installation:

1. Subscribe to this mod and wait for it to download.

2. Right click on the game in Steam, select Manage > Show Local files. You will be taken to the game folder, usually '\steamapps\common\Soviet Republic\media_soviet'.

3. Find the folder with the mod. To do this, open another window with the same address that you have open now, then go up a few levels to the folder '\steamapps\', then go to the subfolder with the mod '\steamapps\workshop\content\784150\3407335176 '.

4. Copy the folders from the Media_Soviet.zip file into the Media_Soviet folder of your game install. (if you have terribly slow internet you might want to make backup copies of the original folders in your install). If it's being slow to unzip in windows, try using 7zip or winrar or similar.

5.You will want to turn on custom GUI size option in the game options and turn it up to at least 115% (depending on your resolution), also turn up the Bottom menu scales as high as they go.

Warning: You may need to manually reinstall this mod after any game updates come out, as it can overwrite back to the default assets.

Uninstall:

Option 1: During install, make backups of the Menu, CWC, Editor, DLC1, Resources and Notification folders in from your media_soviet folder so you can put them back later.

Option 2: If you don't mind downloading some stuff again, just delete the above mentioned folders then go press play on steam and it'll redownload the default versions again.

Credits

Thanks to my dear @FromMidworld for lots of much smarter design input than I could do myself and many afternoons spent working on this together <3

Many icons in this mod are based on ones bought from Flaticon

Menu backgrounds based on art bought from user svekloid on Shutterstock (don't use shutterstock though, good lord they have some cursed billing practices)

Feel free to remix this mod or use it as a foundation for your own UI overhaul. All I request is that you credit me as a co-author and allow me to incorporate any changes you make, as long as they align with the goal of crafting an exceptional UI for this beloved game.

If you require source assets for UI elements, I use Affinity Designer and would be happy to share them. Please contact me on the modders' Discord (@Daffyflyer) for further details. If you want to make icons for your mod buildings that match this UI set, that'd be awesome and I'd happily help.

Other things I've done

I've also done a big ol lighting overhaul for Soviet Republic, so maybe check that out?

@Daffyflyer, Ah, I see. Too bad. Thank you for the reply.

@TB: 1,2,3 Nope, all my changes are just replacing textures, and that's all you have control of really.

Daffyflyer, great job. Well done.

I would like to ask you some technical questions, if you don't mind:

1) Would it be in theory possible for me to alter your mod so that it saves maximum amount of the GUI screen area and minimizes or even removes the need for scrolling in the citizens, buildings and vehicles details windows? I just want to see all info at once. The need for constant scrolling is truly killing me as it wastes so much time.

2) Is there a way how to mod font sizes in the game so that I can save even more space?

3) Is it possible to change the game files so that the data (such as consumption of resources etc.) currently represented by bar charts are represented by line charts as with resource prices, for example? The bar charts are useless for spotting patterns and trends the way they are implemented in the game.

Thanks!

Smashing - just wanted to be sure there will be no crashes :)

Not yet compatible with early start, I need to go make all the new assets for it

(I mean it'll still work fine, it'll just have old style UI/missing building data etc for DLC buildings)

as Lukas I would like to know if its compatible

Anyone knows if this works well with the early age DLC?

Excellent mod, the little icons that add material, speed, storage etc. are extremely useful thank you. I hope the devs will learn and adapt this in a future update to make it dynamically apply to modded content too.

I did notice what seems to be a bug, Road with tram track lists speed as 110km/h while the tooltip says 80

This UI such a massive step up from the crappy looking official one that I legitimately think the devs should hire you to revamp the rest of the UI. A shame the mod can't actually change the menus though.

This is absolutely amazing. I can't go back to the old UI again.
