Engine Order Telegraph SFX

Description
EOT SFX Mod
Don't like the buzzer? Me neither!
This mod will disable the buzzer and replace it with the iconic bell ringing sounds of an engine order telegraph.

The mod comes with a short and long ring. By default, the mod mixes both together. I like the variety, but if you don't like either one of them and/or you don't like the game mixing both in a single order (I don't know how to make it not do that), then you can configure the mod to change that.

Compatibility
New save games are NOT needed - this should work with existing saves; although, you may need to clear out your data cache.

Should be compatible with any mod since this mod simply disables the buzzer sound file from being used in lieu of custom files.

Has been tested with the Sounds of War mod.

Configuration
To configure the mod, head over to this location in the disk you installed UBOAT:

Open up the General.xlsx file. This is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file. If you don't have Microsoft Office, you can use a free alternative such as LibreOffice.

The highlighted boxes are probably the ones you want to touch:

If you want to disable one of them, set the Weight value to the one you don't want to 0. You can adjust these values to something other than 0 to change how likely either one of them will be used (although I don't know what the range of valid values are).

If you want to reenable the buzzer to use alongside the ringing sounds, then you can set the Weight and Priority values for Buzzer 01 to match the others.

If you think the ringing is too loud, you can try lowering the Volume values as well.

Is this historical?
Probably! It's hard for me to find good sources but the Type VII C manual at U-boat Archive[www.uboatarchive.net] mentions that the diesel engine room used bells on page 180.

The sound effects used in this mod were taken from the SH3 Engine Order Telegraph Sound Pack[www.subsim.com] by Tikigod (retrieved from the download here[www.subsim.com]).
The forum post for that mod claims they're "real" and "authentic" and refers to a video that's been taken down. A reply later in the post also points to German-occupied French propaganda of U-boat operations, and you can hear what sort of sounds like an EOT bell ringing, although the quality is really bad so it's hard for me to say anything definitive.

In any case, it's at least time-appropriate and I would much rather use this whilst issuing engine orders from the periscopes instead of having the buzzer blast my ears, even if, also according to the Type VII C manual, the buzzer would be more accurate for the conning tower.

Disclaimer: I'm not well-versed at modding UBOAT at all; I only figured out enough to hack this together. If you have any problems, I don't know if I will be able to help you.

So, historically, if I understand correctly, the buzzer in the kiosk and the bell in the control room were heard at the same time.
So, I decided to enabled both in the .xlsx file by setting Weight=1 for "Devices/Buzzer 01" and "Devices/EOT_bell_long". And it works great!
In the game, I hear them at the same time.
Thanks for this mod!

Yes; I thought that would be obvious since the compatibility section says "Has been tested with the Sounds of War mod."

Historical or not, it's definitely more pleasing than the authentic vanilla buzzer. In fact, UBOAT has switching logic made for your mod, not the buzzers.

Cool stuff. I saw your question down below and started to look for sources. The german Bundesarchiv still has a lot of manuals and I found the og of your link on uboatarchive.net .
Just for everyone who wants to know whats the real sound: both, the mod and vanilla.
