Description
IMPORTANT
If you are using regular Starbound the mod will function when subscribed.

However, this does not work when using Steam's subscribe function! This mod must be installed in [..\starbound\mods] for it to work! To install, subscribe to this mod and then find [..\3432675895<] in [..\steam\steamapps\workshop\content\211820\], and copy file "contents.pak" it to [..\OpenStarbound\mods\]
Then you can rename the file scanlines.pak or whatever you want.

Removes the MM scanner highlights on already inspected objects and OpenStarbound players.
The vanilla scanner also has a fullbright effect on scanned items that makes them light up in dark areas. Now it functions the same as the flashlight and only illuminates the area the light is pointed.

Patches the highlights.config file to make the outline invisible. Not likely to conflict with anything ever.
I made this because OpenStarbound makes the player glow in scan mode and the other mods that do this were not working.
1.2 Found an even easier solution and now the already scanned item won't have a full bright filter lighting it up for no reason.
1.1 I messed with the scan tool file to change some of its lighting properties.

So, I have an absurd amount of mods installed, but this is not working for me, so if anybody else can confirm if this is working for them on openstarbound that'd be super helpful!

Damn, I forgot. Thank you for mentioning that.

I know you said it earlier in the comments here, but it may be wise to put in the description how to put the mod into the mods directory itself self since not everyone is gonna know out the gate that it wouldn't work normally from the workshop. The Full Bright mod had a how-to in it's mod description, and people are able to read up on it to see how they got that mod working.

Thanks! I'm pretty surprised too lol

oh dang, you actually managed to fix it, incredible

Hey btw, if anybody can take a better looking screenshot to describe with the mod does, send it to me. I'm not great at graphic design.

Yep! By golly it worked. I think I have eliminated the fullbright effect and now the ambiance is preserved. You are ok with the pale white highlight from an object that can be interacted with aren't you?

I think the update did help a small bit, but I am unsure if it actually did anything or just wishful thinking and misremembering how bad it was before, either way, it's only really noticeable on the comically large objects like the Hylotl Grand Library bookcases, because only larger objects like that don't fully fit in the scanner beam... basically the real question is, is it possible to entirely remove the scanner glow from already scanned objects, not just the red overlay but also the fullbrighting of the object too.

Worked for me (on oSb)- I didn't try seeing if it worked without copying the .pak over to the mods folder and renaming it after subscribing though.
The game is borderline unplayable without the highlights removed. Thank you bunches lol

It will also work if you copy the 3432675895 folder from the workshop folder steamapps\workshop\content\211820 and put that in the mods folder in the OSB directory. I'll prepare a link though.
