Description
What is this?
This mod allows you to start the game with companions, randomly generated or with specific stats and inventory. Start with siblings, parents or friends and survive together in the apocalypse!

Set each companion's specific stats, name, age, equipment and relationships through the settings file, or make it completely random. Create different presets so that you can easily switch between them when starting a new save. The default preset will generate between 1 and 2 random companions whenever you start a game.

You can also spawn with companions based on your favourite character presets that you have created through the character creation menu. This will carry over all their starting equipment, skills and personality.

Settings
The settings file can be found in the mod's folder under "Settings_TeamStart.xml".
  • Enabled. Whether the mod is enabled. (default true)
  • SelectedPreset. The selected preset to use. (default random)
  • Presets. The list of configuration presets.

Preset
  • Name. The name of the preset.
  • RandomCompanions. Whether to start with completely random companions. (default false)
  • MinRandomCompanions. If RandomCompanions enabled, the minimum number of companions you can spawn with. (default 1)
  • MaxRandomCompanions. If RandomCompanions enabled, the maximumnumber of companions you can spawn with. (default 2)
  • Companions. List of companions to spawn with.

Companions
  • GenderType. The gender of the companion.
  • FromFavouriteCharacter. Set this companion's appearance, name and age from any saved character made in the character creator.
  • Age. The age. If not set, it will take a random one, or it will choose one based on the relationship set with another companion / player.
  • FirstName. The first name. If not set will choose a random one.
  • Surname. The last name. If not set will choose a random one, or take the surname of a parent / sibling.
  • Skills. The skill stats. You specify the type (Strength, HandToHand, Firearms, Archery, Stealth, Medicine, Cooking, Construction, Constitution), the level and the cap.
  • Relationships. List of relationships between this companion and other crew members. You specify the Target (by the first name of the character), the type (ParentOf, ChildOf, SiblingOf, FriendsWith, SleepingWith, MarriedTo, InLoveWith, NotInLoveWith,
  • Inventory. List of inventory items to spawn with. You specify the Equipment Prototype Name and the amount.
  • Personality. List of personality traits. (Nervous, Bold, Compassionate, Detached, Loyal, Fickle, Sociopath, Idealistic, Cynical, Moral, Immoral, Amoral, Hypocritical, Unflappable, Emotional, Bipolar, Alcoholic, Aggressive, Passive, Passive-Aggressive, Homosexual, Bisexual, Skeptical, Credulous, Likes Bland Food, Likes Spicy Food, Jealous, Unpossessive)

I can't seem to figure out how to get the surname function to work. No matter how I try it keeps choosing a random last name for the 'wife and kids' preset.

If you're using the default settings file and haven't changed anything, you just need to increase the values from MinRandomCompanions and MaxRandomCompanions fields of the preset called "Random".

If you want customized characters, check the MeAndKids preset (it spawns you with two characters), copy it and change it however you want. Then just put the name of this preset in the "SelectedPreset" field to make sure it's the one your game is going to load with.

Thank you for creating the MOD. When using saved characters for three or more people, the relationship between the second and third characters is not reflected correctly. (The example "B SN" and "C SN" become unrelated.) Is the method of specification wrong?
