The KCD2 Cooking Mod

Description
** Update 1.4**

Added:
- 7 new recipe books that combine existing loose recipe cards, so you have more options. The new books combine basic meals, more advanced ones, and some combinations in various theme appropriate collections. Look in the Innkeepers for the The Tavern Keeper's Collection, and various other food sellers for books like it that serve to combine the existing recipes and reduce the inventory clutter.

Fixed:
- Pancakes are back on the menu baby
- Recipes are cheaper
- Noble dishes are more expensive, and dishes with spices are also a bit more valuable

Note for translators
I've been finding it difficult to keep up with the translations coming in. If you are willing and happy to update translations for the new content, please do create a mod page on Nexus Mods that links to the main mod containing a localization file (see: Russian, Turkish, Ukranian):

That way you can upload it without me being the bottleneck, people can access it, and updates can happen quicker. Once I have all the updated translations, I'll also package them into the main mod for use on Steam here.

Thanks again to everyone who comments and lets me know that they love the mod, and gives feedback! <3 I really appreciate the kind words!

The KCD2 Cooking Mod

Surprised to find your fancy saffron is more or less useless? No more! This mod hijacks the existing cooking system in KCD2 and extends it to support a complex recipe system, complete with 50+ unique new recipes, cooking items and immersive roleplay elements.

This mod expands and enhances the cooking system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, focusing on authentically deepening the games cooking mechanics. It's designed for players who want a more immersive roleplaying experience living day to day in Henry's shoes. Kick up your feet at one of those roadside camps and brew some chamomile tea or fry up some garlic mushrooms, and take it easy every now and then.

What this mod does

- Adds an extensive range of new food items with realistic nutritional values and effects that can be created with combinations of existing ingredients.
- Utilizes and extends the categorization system for ingredients (meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy, etc.) to support mixing and matching them into recipes.
- Allows players to use the different existing food preparation methods (smoking, drying, cooking) to create foods with appropriate stat enhancements.
- Creates balanced gameplay effects for each food type based on the cooking method, where smoking and drying recipes generally create meals with extended lifetimes, and cooking recipes for stronger health and vitality benefits.
- Maintains full compatibility with the base game's food system, allowing for the more straightforward existing approach if preferred, whilst providing an avenue for roleplaying more extensively when you feel like cooking up a storm.
- Adds unique recipe books and cards into the game world via appropriate vendors - Innkeepers, cooks, fishermen, bakers, butchers, and more. Each has a selection of randomised recipes appropriate to their profession. The recipes vary from basic and cheap, through to a special set of 3 volumes only sold at scribes with the fanciest of recipes for the fanciest of nobles.

Who it's for

This mod is ideal for role-players and cooking enthusiasts who want a more authentic medieval experience.
The mod shouldn't have too much of an impact on the game as far as balance goes, rather it should provide greater depth for players who want to engage with the culinary aspects of medieval life and enjoy the idea of seeking out ingredients and experimenting to discover new dishes. Perfect for those who find satisfaction in the small details that make a historical RPG feel authentic and lived-in.

How to use it

All the existing kitchens, campfires, smoke houses, and drying racks now support adding most, if not all ingredient, drinks, and herb types. Most innkeepers and traders have a new Cooking Kit item, which you will need in order to craft the new recipes. Mix and match different meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy, spices, herbs, water, alcohol (etc.) and see what comes out! Most combinations range from 2 ingredients to 5, and some special ones even more. Pay attention to item descriptions of ingredients for clues!

Each recipe produces an enhanced food item that generally provides a small buff in addition to its standard food benefits, to incentivize tracking down and discovering new meals. The buff wears off after a while though, so keep your eyes out for cool ingredients and keep Henry fed with delicious spicy treats as you work your way though this incredible game.

Finally, a reason for the 600 Grocers in every town.

The meal is worth cooking but carrying around all the recipes books is quite annoying

So it seems this mod is not working currently? All I get is separately cooked items, despite having cooking kit, all recipes, many ingredients, etc. Many food items don't even show up as cookable for some reason. It seems like workshop is kind of dead anyway and Nexus is the way to go for mods in KCD2 atm?

Guys, how do I install a mod with a translation? Everything is showing up without translation into my locale.

So Pepper is showing in food in inventory just fine but when you go to cook it just doesn't show up. Pretty much every other ingredient and seasoning other than Pepper is showing up just fine when I go to cook. Wouldn't be a problem but a lot of recipes just like real life have pepper in them

finally. Janosh's recipes are going to be useful

Akai-AC beat me to it - came here just to let you know that honey doesn't show up for cooking unfortunately :(

Been enjoying the mod though! Couldn't play the game without it, it's just not complete without some lovely bohemian meals :galelove:

Not sure why but the mod decides to work then not work. It is super annoying when I am making say the "woodsmans fare" and all of a sudden all the meat and mushrooms decide to dry like in vanilla and i have to revert back to my save and try again. I cannot figure out why it decides to not work sometimes. IS there anything that you know that might cause the mod to fail for no apparent reason?

Honey is not showing up while trying to cook. It shows up in food section in inventory, but not while trying to cook.
