Trap Everything

Description
Trap Everything is a simple mod that allows for trapping more types of animals.
This is Build 42 only.
This is also my first mod here, so I am not super sure if I am uploading this completely correctly. Please report any issues ASAP so that I can look into them.

I am not super familiar with trapping in real life, so any suggestions to more closely imitate appropriate trapping cycles and baits for the different animals would be welcome.

Update 4/19/2025: Updates so that more adult animals can be caught, updated deer to have a dawn trapping period, adjusted some of the rates for different trapping setups to try to make the rates feel more realistic. I still have a ways to go on nailing that down though, so be warned!

Pigs:
Hours are 0500 - 1900
Traps: Cage, Snare, Box, Crate
*Adult pigs can only be caught in snare traps
Bait: Carrots, Apple, Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cabbage, Corn, Banana, Potato, Tomato, Peach, Pear, Smashed Watermelon, Cat Treats, Cat Food Bag, Dog Food Bag, Smashed Pumpkin (despite all their rage they are still just piglets in a cage), Fish Fillet, Venison, Beef, Squash, Zucchini

Chickens:
Can catch adult chickens and young chickens.
Hours: 0700-1800
Traps: Cage, Snare, Box, Crate, Stick
*Young chickens can only be caught in stick traps.
Bait: Carrots, Apple, Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cabbage, Corn, Potato, Tomato, Peach, most of the fishing bait critters, Peanuts, Sunflower Seeds, Crackers, Popcorn, Frog Meat

Turkeys:
Can catch adult turkeys and young turkeys.
Hours: 0700-1800
Traps: Cage, Snare, Box, Crate
*Young turkeys can only be caught in stick traps
Bait: same as chickens

Sheep:
Hours: 0700-2000
Traps: Cage, Snare, Box
*Adult sheep can only be caught in snare traps.
Bait: Carrots, Apple, Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cabbage, Corn, Potato, Tomato, Peanuts

Deer:
Note that deer cannot be domesticated, so if you pull one from the trap and set it down, it will instantly flee from you. You may want to have a small enclosed area to put it to be able to do anything with it.
Hours: 0400-0700 and 1700-2200
Traps: Snare
Baits: Carrots, Apple, Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cabbage, Corn, Tomato, Peach, Sunflower Seeds, Acorn

Cow:
Only a young cow (calf) can be caught. They are very rare. It has happened in real life that calves escape and get adopted by wild animals, but it is a very rare occurrence.
Hours: 0700-1900
Traps: Snare
Baits: Apple, Corn, Barley Sheaf, Dried Barley Sheaf, Hops, Rye Sheaf, Dried Rye Sheaf, Wheat Sheaf, Dried Wheat Sheaf.

Anyone is welcome to reupload this mod or upload a new version anywhere or put it in whatever modpack they want.

Amazing mod! Tbh, im all for wilderness challenges but it certainly has its downsides in the long run and one of those was access to farm animals that wont spawn in the wild. This mod fixes this issue.
Tho i have to agree with @Island Potato, regardeless hes not uploading much Zomboid content lately:steammocking:.
It need balancing or options to do so. At the very least the type of bait could be something harder to get at early stages or simply more specific for each type of animal also for the benefit of focusing the trapping instead putting a bell pepper on a snare to get a chicken and getting a pig, a sheep and a deer.
I suppose we can try to change the config files for that. But thought the comment was justified.
Still love the mod tho!!!

@Unbreakable Patches: This mod does not conflict with Nepenthe's Nearby Traps. We touch entirely different portions of the trapping system.

could this mod have conflict with Nepenthe's nearby traps?

@IslandPotato: Thank you for the feedback. I will be taking a deeper look into this soon and try to get some of the balancing issues ironed out.

Love the mod! But it may need a bit of balancing - seems a bit op that in my run I filled a chicken coop with 6 chickens, and a sheep field with 5 sheep, all just using snare traps at level 1 trapping within a few days.

I mostly used crops during this time (peaches, cabbage, potatoes for the most part) but I only trapped one rabbit and no squirrels during the same period. I think certain animals might benefit from being locked behind trapping levels, or make the rates much more rare IMO.

But this mod has been a god send for my 12 months after outbreak start - as without this, I wouldn't have gotten any animals!

we need a mod to domesticate deer, because it would make sense during the zombie apocalypse to have a source of them

Hello! I have added in some adult animals. When I originally made this mod, my assumption was that snare traps would not have the strength to contain many of the adult animals. However, people who set snare traps to catch coyotes apparently have issues with catching deer by mistake. Also, snare taps are also used to catch feral pigs.

@Infestissuman: I am going to be doing some testing this weekend. If it works, I will be adding adult sheep as a rare but potential catch to snare traps.

Pretty cool mod! But wouldn't it make sens to let some adult animals fall into some traps? Like a snare trap maybe? I can imagine an adult sheep falling into one of those and getting stuck. Maybe some smaller adult pigs too? Just an idea!
