[B42] Gunfire Causes Hearing Loss

Description
This mod offers a realistic way to gain hearing loss, through the exposure of gunfire.

HOW IT WORKS
The mod uses a hidden counter to track every gunshot.

Repeated gunfire in a short amount of time can result in a TTS (Temporary Threshold Shift) aka Hard of Hearing. Long-term use of firearms can result in a PTS (Permanent Threshold Shift) aka Deafness.

Fire too many shots in a single hour and you might suffer TTS. Shooting in confined-spaces will also result in higher stress on your eardrums. TTS doesn't last too long, only a few hours. It isn't until you've shot around 1,000 rounds (or so) that you will suffer PTS.

But don't worry! You can easily avoid this by wearing ear protection (Ear Muffs & Ear Protectors). When worn, they completely negate the effects of gunfire. Leveling up your aiming skills will also reduce the counter significantly.

PTS WARNINGS: Tinnitus and Pulsatile Tinnitus

I've added audio-based warnings that signify if you're approaching the PTS threshold or if you've triggered TTS. First you'll hear a slight pulsating sound, then overtime, it will progress to louder ringing in your ears.

FORGIVING VERSION
There is a second version for players seeking a less punishing and slightly more realistic system.

Key Differences:
- Tracks explosions and could add a massive amount of "trauma" value based on the distance.
- You have a chance to recover from HOH, Deaf, and to regain Keen Hearing.
- This recovery chance is daily. If you fail these recovery rolls 4-5 times, the condition becomes permanent.

(All credit goes to UattO for making this version)

@unlockk I honestly don't know. It's possible that that could cause issues

Just out of curiosity does this mod account for Surviving Through Seasons where you can make the year less than 365 days? I see it uses the code 'currentDay' and 'GetWorldAgeHours' and idk, I wonder if the days get skipped it also skips the recovery attempts in the forgiving version of this mod? I lost keen hearing after firing a gun maybe 20-30 times and it never came back, so was wondering how the code works.

any chance of adding ear plugs or something like that to allow wearing with helmets or other items that cover the ears?

is there an option for the tinnitus effect to be disabled, for those afflicted with it in real life already and not wanting to experience it twice?

@Hans-Landa Every gun, vanilla or modded, is given a sound radius. This tracks the radius. And a .22 caliber gun would naturally have a much lower radius realistically but it all depends on what number the modder gave it. I would think that they set it to something low

Sorry if this was asked previously but im using Guns of 93 and I'm shooting a Ruger MK.II which uses .22 LR, does this mod take into account caliber and if so guns that are suppressed and or come with integrated suppressors to reduce hearing loss?

@Bubby_pz23 In that case, I think I have to wait one more day... I lost count while "inside", as I kept sleeping in the prison. :steammocking:

@TaikaJamppa The forgiving script gives you a "recovery roll" once every 24 hours in-game. You get four attempts total over four days, and if you fail them all, it becomes permanent

@bubby_pz33 Forgiving. Thanks mate, appreciate that. Also, can you confirm the time this trait should disappear? Description says "few hours"...

Also, I did shoot in the prison's hallways, approximately 60-90 rounds, give or take. Three mags from the AR-15, that is, that caused the loss of hearing.
